Today we went on a walking tour around the old town of Dubai. We caught the metro to an area called Al Ras and then walked to the Heritage house which was one of the older houses in Dubai turned into a small museum. Entry was free and they had various rooms in the house set up as it was originally with mannequins in each room as well as original furniture and information on how each room was used. It was quite good. Right next to the Heritage house was the Al Amadiya school which was the first school built in Dubai and had similar displays as the Heritage house.
We next tried to find the Gold Souk but ended up walking around for ages and thinking we had not found it. As it turns out it isn't a central market but just a collection of gold shops in a certain area. We wandered on through an area called the Perfume Souk which was more shops all selling perfume and back to the metro. We were planning on going back to the hotel for lunch then going back out to another part of the old town but decided we'd go there on Saturday instead and caught the metro put to the Mall of the Emirates for lunch and to look around the mall.
This is the mall with Ski Dubai so we had a look through the window with all the other numpties. After looking around for a while caught the metro back to the hotel. The train was crowded and they have signs up asking people to let people get off the train before trying to get on. So, they all try to barge their way onto the train as everyone else is trying to get off. At one station we were trying to get off as the scrum came into the train so we dropped our shoulders and barges our way through. People bouncing off us all over the place.
After getting back to the hotel we had a coffee and then rested in our room for a while before heading out to dinner. Another early night tonight as we are still both a bit tired.
