Today we spent the day at Aquaventure water park. After breakfast, which included "beef bacon" which is thin slices of beef made to look like bacon but tasting nothing like bacon, we caught the metro down to Dubai Internet City. From there you had to get a taxi to the water park. We got to the taxi rank just as another couple were getting into a taxi so we asked if they were going to the water park, they were, and if they wanted to share the taxi. They agreed so we got into the taxi and were on our way to the water park. When we arrived we all realised that the meter had not been turned on and the guy from the other couple asked what the fare was. He was told AED50.00 which is about $16.00 Australian which was a complete rip off. Luckily we shared the taxi so it was only a half-rip off each.
The cost to enter the water park was a bit like flying Jetstar. You could pay for an entry only ticket or you could get various combos including a towel and a locker among other things. We decided to go for the combo that included a towel and locker. We spend the entire day there, it was great fun. About a dozen waterslides of varying levels of scariness. There was the Leap of Faith which was an almost vertical drop which both us went on first. They tell you to keep your feet crossed and I can tell you why as my feet came apart on the first slide and the jet of water almost sent the gonads back to where they descended from. There was another called Poseideon's Revenge where you went into a capsule and the floor drops out from under you sending you free-falling for a few meters before you hit the almost vertical waterslide. S gave that one a miss. There were also kilometres of rapids that you could float down to take you from one end of the park to the other. The park wasn't too crowded which meant you didn't have to wait long for any of the slides.
We caught the monorail back on the way home then had to catch a taxi back to the metro station. We agreed a price to take us back to the Internet City station and went to the taxi to get in. Once we got in the driver tried to negotiate a higher fare or he'd only take us to another station for the agreed price which was AED20.00. In the end he took us to the other station which made little difference to us for the price we had agreed to. We got to the station and we asked if he had any change, the driver said he had none so when told we only had AED15.00 in change he miraculously found change for AED100.00. We arrived back at the hotel exhausted and as we had an early start the next morning went to bed early.
