So we got to sleep in a bit today, yayyyy. We grabbed some breakfast and headed down after packing up the cameras and stuff to meet Baguete (I was right Shauna wasn't), he walked in as we got there. So off to the car and we hit the road to get to the Citadel.
So again the traffic thing.....freaking amazing....not sure could drive it myself. Oh before I forget, We seem to have lucked out with the weather it's been really nice.
So we went to the Citadel, huge fortress from the crusader days. Inside of it is a massive Mosque. It is very impressive to see the grandure of it all.
The thing is massive with huge spires on the sides...check the pics....
Amazing simply amazing....so our guy knows his stuff. He timed it so we got there between buses and he even impressed himself as he marched us into the Mosque.....first off no bolts of lighting hit us....I was nervous though. Took the boots off to enter and we had the place to ourselves, this is the amazing part first time it seems our guide has ever seen it like that, empty except us. So we ran off on his advice and took all the pics we could think of before the next tidal wave of tourists arrived. The tomb of Mohammed Ali was inside and kinda cool.
Next we sat down inside of the mosque and we had a one on one with Baguette on Islam religion. Both of us are very enlighteded now as he really filled in a lot of blanks for us. We are both very greatful to him to take the time to sit us down in that environment and first inform us about what it is "supposed" to be about and secondly allowing us to ask a lot of questions to get the average person's perspective on the religion and world events. I and Shauna have a much more open mind about the issues now.
This castle is on top of a hill and we got to see the view of the city from there. It's pretty big...and differant!
From here we took of to the Egyptian Museum. No cameras, video, etc. so no pics.....
WOW........the place is packed with amazing artifacts, statues, and all that King Tut stuff.
Yup we got to go in and see the King Tut exhibit.....dude had a lot of toys for only being in power for 8 years. The golden face mask is amazing....we took in all of the major items in the museum, this is where having an Egyptologist traveling with you pays off....very educational. He let us loose after a while and we took in all the actual mummies. Pretty errie......they still have hair and look a bit freaky. But dammm they look better than some 40 year olds I've seen.....
So a person could spend a ton of time in there but we ran out of it and had to get some lunch.....so off to the Khan market. Pity more time there would have been cool.
Have to say Egyptian food is not that bad, just don't bother to ask for a pork chop....ain't gonna happen! This restaurant we went to was in the middle of the market, very classy, very unlike the market. We got totally accosted by the hawkers. Funny story....Shauna wanted to get water pipe, so they take her to another store and me and Baguette have to go find her. We find her no probs, but man what a haggle sesion....we walked out twice. Our guy Baguette was spitting more "ach's" and "ablaba's" at the sales guys than you can shake a stick at.....we were a bit speechless....but man he went to bat for us. Shauna walked out with a really nice one for about 1/4 of the start point.
Word of advice...if your coming here....you need to haggle your ass off for a real deal. It is not easy. I think it's tougher than Thailand by far, and they just don't quite bugging you after you said no 20 times they still ask how many do ya want? Got tired of the haggle so we went to a cafe and sat back drinking some good ole turkish coffee....very cool.....then the dammm hawkers start to bug you while your trying to have a conversation.....ackkk.
Off we went....Shauna wants to look for perfume.....guess what Baguette knows a place..............
Shauna now has some new perfumes........real oils no alcohol.....quite the process.....takes a while to buy the stuff, but she did, our sales guy was a hoot.......
Enough of this, time to head to the hotel....We really hit the traffic jam this time, again you have to see the video to believe it....
We have to be at the airport for 3:00 am....ick.
Next stop Aswan.....got to catch a boat......
Hmmm jsut noticed Shauna is already sleeping...not fair I say.....
