Hope you all are enjoying my ramblings.....in case your wondering Shauna does have editorial rights and she has exercised them. It is actually pretty hard to write about this stuff . Some much to tell but the fingers keep speaking up with the ole "Dude wrap it up I'm about to cramp on ya!" stuff.
Hardest part also has been the net connections from the accident off the coast near Alexander....perfect timing! Hard to get a connection most of the time but now is good., they said it is repaired and back to full capacity now. When we got to Egypt it was really bad....banks couldn't do a thing etc etc. So they pretty much cut everybody off except the main businesses and banks of course.....shows the pecking order I guess.
So Yesterday was crazy.....we did so much and saw so much and all in one day. When we got back to the ship we were pretty wiped. Mohammed was an exceptional guide and of course he has to say goodbye now. He got a real kick out of my questions, apparently I ask a lot, I always asked about something that he was about to get to in about 2 minutes....so he would just laugh at me. A lot of tourists just nod there head a lot and really don't listen to what the guides are saying, shame cause you actually learn a lot.
He has become a good friend in a very short time and he wants us to stay in touch. We will......now comes the goodbye parts.....y'all know how Shauna is.....she does get attached. She is missing people from here already, she did good and Mohammed gave us an Egyptian send off. We are supposed to call him during the rest of the trip to let him know how we are doing and we will. Not sure if I mentioned they set our cell phone up soon as we go here. Help is only a call away, nice to have.....
So we had another early flight.....no probs.....stuffed the bags....no joke either....stuffed the bags. Our handler (to make sure we get on the right flight) was awesome he arranged to have the ship restaurant opened at 4:00 so we could eat breakfast prior to leaving......how's that for service? Left the ship and off to the airport. No issues, Egypt air seems to be ok. Don't bother to listen for announces by the way.....just look for people to start getting up. Then its on a bus to the plane....
Short flight......didn't even have time to finish my juice and we were prepping to land. Now flying over Sharm really makes you wonder what the heck the attraction is its just a desert down there.
We got in and our guide met us no probs. She is really nice, like the rest it would appear. Driving around the area she fills us in....its like Cancun to us....only hotels...no one lives here....just tourists and workers.
So they take us the hotel.....Four Seasons.....seen some nice hotels in our travels but the bar has been raised.....seems this place is a 7 star, rated #1 hotel in all of Africa and the Middle East. We can see why....OMG.....this place is indescribable. It is nestled in a bay and the hotel sprawls out all around the bay. Check out the pics....
So we got here early and of course our room is not ready, they apologize and all that and tell us to go have breakfast and the room will be ready shortly. For our inconvenience they have upgraded our room....sweet I say. They want to call us when the room is ready and they have a cell phone for us in case we don't have one....???? Not seen that before....no worries we have one I say.
Off to the restaurant with us in the mean time, they even have a dude that cuts up fruit that you pick....pretty cool....we finish up and wait for the room. There are little cubby holes all over the place to sit and relax so we find one with big cushy couches and park it.....it had a wicked view of the Red Sea below us. Whilst waiting I work on the blog. Its only about 9:00am lots of day left. The weather is awesome by the way......
Ok now its really nice out and I am a bit tired of waiting cause its been about another ½ hour. So I go to ask the front desk if the room is ready. Another gentleman is at the desk wearing a different uniform and I ask him what is up. He doesn't really answer my questions and tells me that normal check in time is 3:00 so hang on. I am a bit torqued cause the other guy said it would be right away....rather than argue.....I hold up the hand turn around and walk away.....back to where we are set up. I'm about ready to resign ourselves to having to wait around (they had our bags so couldn't change cloths) when it dawns on me Samia (our guide) tells us to call if you have any problems so I do. Tell her we are a bit annoyed as we have no room yet.....she says....hang I'll take care of it......click.
A couple of minutes later I hear the clip clop of someone running down the stairs.....it's the dude I gave the hand to. He is looking for me it would appear. Turns out he is the Manager hence the different uniform and he starts apologizing all over the place and stuff and he tells us he has a room for us in like two minutes...and for our inconvenience he has upgraded us again.....suite with our own pool......cooooolllll.
All is forgiven.....he takes us to our room err villa and wow. If has a wicked views from the sun deck....the suite is like 1400 square ft. 2 bathrooms and showers separate bedroom......just really nice. Check out the pics.....to believe.....
The weather here is great....We got settled in and off to the beach.....
So its pretty sweet....first stop the bar on the beach heh heh.....
Found a new rum.... Myer's Dark Jamaican made the mistake of ordering doubles...after a few I noticed that the normal shot glass looked like a drink tumbler....oops...by then the slirring was getting in the way of making em singles...so I just accepted the inevitable. Shauna was doing the beer out here. Stella, and Sakara.....mmmm very good also. So we staggered back to the room to get onto the serious matters at hand lounging in the sun....
Clarice if your coming here this place is for you. They set up your loungers with blankets...and try to do anything like adjust your umbrella.....no joke...5 guys actually run and I do mean run to you and politely move you aside so they can do the work. They even have a guy who comes by and cleans your sunglasses, another guy sprays you with lemon water or whatever flavor you pick.....to wash the sweat off ahhhhhhhhh...... returning to reality is so gonna suckkkkk.
Went for a dip in the Red Sea, it is some of the clearest water I have seen a bit chily compared to the Carib but refreshing non the less. All of the area around Sharm is protected park....so corral is good etc etc lotssa fishes.
Once the sun dips a bit it cools fast so we packed it in and we called our gal to come get us to take us into town.....(seriously call her anytime for whatever. She got us and we were off.
We got to town and wow....its like Vegas.....cept no bums....or Americans ha ha ha. Very different.....coffee shops everywhere, and shops galore...great..... So we found a quaint street restaurant and parked it for supper. Sorry to report it was not great....Shauna had a really good calzone. I went for the lobster....smallest lobster I ever saw.....about 3 bites of lobster in it.....pity....
We wondered around for a while after that but I was not in the shopping wood so we called our gal to come get us (this is where the cell phone is a great thing).
Time to hit call it a day.....must say Egyptian cotton sheets are awesome.....
