OMG the early mornings are killer.....and I think I've paid the ultimate price...got me a nasty cold. Crap!
We caught our flight in the early morning no probs, we also met some neet folks Rick (head of Radiology department for some Hospital in Jersey) and his wife, Ingrid. They were a blast. He is a big camera buff and his lenses were definitely bigger than mine. No envy here haha. Either way our new guide met us same as usual next thing we are in a car with our Nubian driver. Super friendly dude....showed us his house and drove us thru the town pointing out all the hot spots...ok it was a short drive......its a small one....next stop south is Sudan...only a 100km I think. But it is nasty desert in between.
Apparently we could have driven but if you do you have to take a convoy....cause if you breakdown you are toast...literally. From the air there was nothing but sand and the odd small rock mountain. I actually saw a convoy from the air looked pretty neat. Aside from that nothing else was on the road.
So we get to the temple....holy crap is it impressive. yup they moved it lock stock and barrel and reassembled it to save it from the rising flood waters of Lake Nasser and you can't find a joint where they put it back together. The symbology is amazing and hard to keep up with with the Egyptologists, but the stories are pretty cool, only 721 gods to try to remember. They also built a fake mountain to support it.
So no pics and video in the temple....but I managed to smuggle a few....no flash and they even turned out. heh heh.
Right about here I really didn't feel good. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Started to lose my voice and my throat was killing me. Shauna was fine. So we went back to the airport along the way we got talking to a really nice lady, 79 and traveling by herself all over the place. Very inspirational...I tried to help her on the bus that takes ya to the plane and she almost smacked me with her hand bag. By the time we got to Aswan I was feeling like mucho crap. So our driver took us to a local Pharmacy. Guess what no Dristan or Tylenol here. Could not read a freakin label. So get this they get a girl who can understand English. She asked my symptoms and she puts together a bunch of pills for me. 4 boxes of stuff....much more powerful stuff than back home. Cost...about 10 bucks....would have been 50 back home I think. Ohh and then she stuffs the bag full of throat lozenges for free.
The people here are so nice, and I feel like s***.....Shauna doesn't. So we went back to the room and I passed out...Shauna went to talk to the guide to find out what time we are leaving in the am and she mentions that I am sick. The concierge got wind of it next thing you know they are sending up special tea concoctions and soup and rice. They fired it up to the room for me. They are really worried about me.....definitely do not feel like a number here!
Me go sleep now...tomorrow we cruise to Kom Obo (not sure I spelt it right) and then Ed Fu (again with the spelling thing).....
