Okay so here it is....
OMG WAS THAT EVER FREAKING COOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shauna is sawing logs as I type away trying to catch up on this blog..seems they have repaired some of the internet over here now....had to do a few entries at once cause seems the internet took a hit over here and was out till now across the mediteranean.
Started the day at about 7:30 (we slept great nice bed fluffy pillows....but I did wake up at 4:00 am, internal clock needs some time I think) first stop the big Pyramids that you've all seen on tv and in the pics. They do take the breath away....we went inside one of them....it's pretty cramped getting in and all that....and it's hot in there....but worth it. It's really a big chamber after all. Seen a lot of pics and video myself but seeing them in person is very differant.
We took a ton of pics and video as our Egyptologist (has a PHd coming to him in a year) totally educated us about the 5 w's. Definately learned a lot of stuff I did not know..... His name (our guide) is Bagette, I think, Shauna thinks its Packet.....we think its rude to ask at this point....that arabian accent does strange things to the ears...either way he is a great guy as is our driver. Our driver is kind of like Mario Andrettie...but in a Mercedes...and with a suit.
Our dude found us a couple of camels and off we went on our camel ride. It's very relaxing....we walked around the desert in the shadows of the Pyramids, still grinning about it...Shauna had a blast....and the camels didn't stink or spit on us at all....
After we checkout out the Sun Boat...4100 years old and the ropes were still in usable shape.....very cool.... we headed to Memphis. On the way we stopped at a Papryus place and watched them make it....very intersting...picked up a few for the wall.
Had some lunch and then off to Memphis. These artifacts are everywhere around here. Memphis had a massive statue in it of Ramses.....amazing to see it up close. Learned a bunch more from our guide and we were off again to Shaqqara.
WOW.....nuff said check the pics...
Had to cut it a bit short as my stomach did a "HEY TODD TIME TO GO TO THE BATHROOM LIKE RIGHT NOW AND IF YOU DON'T LET's JUST SAY IT WON'T BE PRETTY!" thing on me. Want to kiss the Bedouin that put the porta potty ala Egyptian style in the middle of the desert.....k but next time please add running water and it would be perfect.....
Shauna then made the mistake of mentioning that she liked a rug she saw....so our guy then proceeded to make sure we had an opportunity to check it out from a more reputible dealer....so like I am definately more sensitive to the amount of labour that goes into the making of a rug......cause believe me when I say this...its a lot of freakin labour...
$25,000 for a silk rug was a bit much....and so was $500 for a camel hair one....the search will continue I am sure....
Did I mention that you can get good deals on gold here.....Shauna seems to have found this out....dammmmm internet giving too much knowledge to the wrong people.....lets just say Achmed the gold dealer is our buddy now.....
With that we called it a day....back to the hotel and it is now time to hit the hay.......
stay tuned for more fun in the sand.....
