Day 9
Today was cold
Saskatchewan is flat
That is all
HAHAHA. seriously, that IS about all. I cannot WAIT to get out of these boring plains. I know, I know.... I complained about Ontario. But in all honesty. I really liked Ontario. It was beautiful, just needed a visual change, thats all. But man...this is not what I had in mind. I thought Saskatchewan was like a frozen icey tundra of awesomeness. It's SO not. Im not really sure WHY I thought that, maybe cause Saskwatch sounds like Saskatchewan, and Maybe he lives here. HAHA. seriously. nothing but cows here.
I am held up tonight in the last possible town in Sask. Right at the border mind you called Lloydminster. I really wanted to make it into Alberta today too. Just for my own goal reasons. My butt was tired after putting on 324 miles today. I've also learned, usually the hard way. That when you see a motel, and think....well...I can just ride till the next town. Only to find out the next town is 50 miles away and HAS no hotels. I've been there, in the rain even. Speaking of which , there was zero of that today. AWESOME! Though it was friggin freezing this morning. Stupid cold front.SO you never want to push on TOO much, or you find that instead of retiring somewhat early and resting your weary bones, you dont find a motel till many miles & hours later, and your overly exhausted then.
The lady at the hotel was super nice. She even cut me a break after we got to talking and found out I was a musician. haha seriously. I have no idea why that mattered, but she took like $10 off the bill. SWEET. though she told me she was into country music herself. Whatever...thanks for the $10 off!
I've come to realize in my travels though these small little piddly poop towns that for some people, this is it. At least it appears to be it. I wanted adventure, so I went off on my motorbike to seek it. This is also by saying....i wanted adventure from my rock band lifestyle, which...aint too shabby. The town of foam lake for instance. I spoke with 2 of the locals there. And your typical local, is usually pretty nice, and very willing to have a convo with you. usually they spark it up. I suppose Im an easy target for topic of conversation. Overloaded bike for one, guitar ALWAYS gets a mention, and then if they happen to see my plates before I tell them where I'm from. I get the "you sure are a long ways from home!" Anyways, back to foam lake. I kept mentioning how it seemed to be a sleepy little town. They agreed. told me, there is one store, one gas station, one resteraunt, one motel, and one bar. and usually after 6pm no one is in any of them.
So it made me think. Im sure these people are happy with their little lives in their small quiet little town. you would think that they would get the travel bug way too many times to count. I've seen TONS of RV's and other bikers overloaded with gear like me. Maybe they do, who knows. but just something I was thinking about on my long flat straight boring ride through the great windy plains of Canada.
I really cannot wait for ALASKA.
324 miles today, 20 cows honked at...which is like 300 cows!!! (thats like 10 cards!!)
total miles= 2,819
PS sorry for the lack of any good pictures or vids. there is really nothing worthwhile to stop and shoot here...
...except for maybe that elusive little saskwatch!
