Day 8
20 cows honked at today!
...that is 20 different groups...thats like 200 cows!!!
Ya know...Im getting sick of gray skies. I woke up after another amazing night of sleep in Kenora, and after getting sick of watching the weather channel, I said F-it, and decided to ride west. hell..it wasnt raining. just cloudy and gray.
So, I finally got into Manitoba. I was super excited to be in a new province. Not to knock Ontario, it truly is beautiful there, but it was just time for a scenery change. well..BOY did I get a scenery change. Manitoba is FLAT, and bland, and boring, and FLAT, and straight, and UGH! just...boring. It was really cold today too. Not sure what the tem was, but I was wearing. rain gear, leather jacket, fleece coat, long johns, and a tee shirt. I had like 12 articles of clothing on, and was still a bit chilly. Who wears 12 articles of clothing? Ok, I do, and maybe someone going to a strip poker tournemant. I mean..camon...he'd be a shoe in to win.
I drove around winnipeg. After that hideous Toronto ordeal...I vowed to stay away from major cities ( for now at least ) at this point in the day, the skies were opening up, and I finally was seeing some blue. Big Homer WOOHOO!! I just knew I could ride 400 Miles today easily, right into Saskatchewan. ( I actually did 507 miles )
About 10 miles before Sask. I met another biker while fueling up. Brandon I think his name was. From British Columbia. He too was riding west, almost the exact same route as me. he was headed home after a 3 week trip of his own. He mentioned how he had hit insane rain a few miles west of our location, and decided to come back to the gas station to wait it out. So I did too. We chilled and talked biker/trip stuff. He also got pounded by that horrible storm 2 nights ago as well. Its fun to laugh about it now, especially with someone who experienced pretty much the exact same thing.
We then both headed out west towards Saskatchewan, and within 30 mins. we were both geting soaked! I am sooo freaking tired of this rain s***. Im tired of the threat of rain. Im tired of riding into a town to look for a motel, all while being wet. THis rain by the way, is killing my whole camping out plan, and saving money from it. Im lucky enough to find motels between 50-70 bucks a night. You go to any of the lame-o chains. (holiday in, best western, super 8, etc.. and you are looking at at least $100)
I rode into a little town (forget the name) and found a motel THANK GOD....I was soaked, well guess what....they had no vacancies. THANKS for putting that sign on your hotel that says NO VACANCIES, so I might drive on by to another hotel. Sadly though, there were no other hotels, SO....it was 30 more miles to the next town of Foam Lake. where I am sitting, dry, showered and fed at 10PM writing this blog.
After complaining about wanting to get out of Ontario , BOY do i miss the rolling hills, lakes and forests. Manitoba is flat and boring, and Sask. is exactly the same. I guess my cow honking high numbers should clue you all in on the fact that its farm country out here.
rain days = 5
sunny days = 3
Also, I went from getting like 125 miles on 2 gallons of gas, to 100 miles on 2 gallons of gas. WTF??? I am riding about 70MPH today instead of 50-60 MPH. would that make me lose 25 miles on 2 gallons? Anyone know that answer?
I also downloaded the "into the wild" soundtrack last night and was listening to it during my ride today. Im SO not an Eddie Vedder fan, but I admit, the songs he wrote for that movie are pretty darn good. And that movie ROCKED, and seems fitting for my journey.
Im way ahead of schedule. 4 days to be exact. not much to see in this part of Canada though. I was told it will stay this way till I get to about (a-boat) Calgary
I can't wait to get to Alaska
rode 507 miles today (a record high for me)
total miles = 2,495
PS: Al...No you cant sell my guitar amp!!!! funny man!
