Day 27
Back on US soil
Sometimes it's so exchausting trying to recap the days events. I usually write it all down in my little journal during dinner and then type it all out here back in the hotel room later.
Today was a bit of a boring ride out of Banff and towards Calgary. Just a big 2 lane open highway moving you out of the mountains and back into plains. I honked at over 34 different groups of cows today, I think that's a record for me. So that should give you an idea of the farming country I've now rolled into.
From Calgary I headed South to the US border. WOOHOO! I had a sunny ride all day today, though the winds kicked up and really fought me and the bike for hours. I think I hate riding in the wind more then the rain. I was constantly leaning right, and trying to NOT get blown into oncoming traffic. Not fun! oh well...
so, once in Montana...the scenery really started to change. More mountains started to spring up, and they definitely look different then the Canadian ones I've seen over the past few weeks. Different, but still cool.
the roads changed dramatically. I went from 2 lane hwys to twisty, bendy little one lane roads that winded you around steep cliffs and mtns and rivers. It definitely got a little hairy on some of the turns. You were right on the verge of a cliff with no guard rail, and super high winds. crazy!
I rode into the town of East Glacier, which was a kind of cool little quirky town, and I wanted to spend the night there, but after 3 different stops at 3 different motels. None had wifi, or even a tv signal. and of course, no cell phone service either. All of the people here were really nice, and each telling me to try the next motel, etc.. the last lady told me to push on to west glacier, maybe I'd have more luck. By the way...EAST glacier is home of the famous giant purple spoon. yeah... i wasnt that impressed either, especially at its mere 7' stature. Definitely NOT photo worthy.
So I rode into West glacier, and got to the Vista motel, and WOW, what a view. you'll have to check my pics and vids later. for some reason offexploring takes awhile to make them available, theres still as of right now, about a dozen vids you all havent seen, that are just awaiting approval.
so, yeah...the vista hotel. not bad... sort of have wifi, it comes and goes, and theres no tv reception out here, come to think of it, no TV either, and still no phone service. but Im digging this place for tonight. and loving the view
I also photographed my first bear today...hahah... you'll see video soon enough :)
Im so glad to be back in the states. Canada was fun, and exciting and I learned a lot. I honestly didnt know much about Canada, other then Beer, hockey, Rush, and its probably Real cold. Now that I've spent a good 3-4 weeks up here and hit almost every province, I can now say, that well.... Canada has good beer, hahaha. no seriously. I now have a better understanding of so many different places up there. Heck, the Yukon alone is so friggin remote. that if any of you EVER want to move somewhere and not see another soul for a good 100 miles....move to the Yukon.
oh....and perhaps the best news of today! (drum rolll please) I got an email from the motel in Mcbride. THEY FOUND MY USB DRIVE!!!!!!! woohoo!!!! theyre going to mail it to Ashley in NM, so I will have it then. totally awesome! Im shocked it turned up.
354 miles today
7,475 total miles
