CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW & LADY LUCK
True survivors these. A tale of lives lost and love found; two little chicks make lemonade outta ice cold lemons. To make our little farm more 'farm-y' we decided to embark on becoming foster parents to 42 chicks. Steve has a long history of raising fowl, mostly ducks and geese but they're all about the same. So this venture wasn't exactly the blind leading the blind. I knew I could follow Steve's lead, once I did the legwork on getting the babies to the property. We were all very excited, especially Ruby (I'll post photos on the photo tab page - can't wait until OffExploring updates the website : )
Upon arrival, we dipped the surviving chicks beaks in their little water trough and let them roam their toasty new home, but each hour we lost a few more. Sadly, only 2 out of the 42 chicks survived! We suspect that they were kept improperly somewhere along their journey as most were deceased in the delivery box. Chicks don't fair well in the cold.
Now these 2 fluffy, suspicious creatures are inseparable! The male is a Silver Sebright and the female a B.B. Red Old English - both bantams. If they have any chicks together in the future, it will be quite a colorful experiment. Trudge on little chickies!
