My how time flies! Speaking of flies, I am excited to announce the lack there of so far this year, although it is early days yet. On our little farm, we tend to have more flies than blades of grass. I haven't yet figured the why on this, but I'm beginning to formulate ideas of termination tactics.
In the meanwhile, we have been working hard to get some things done between rain and/or snow showers. If anyone knows Steve, they know he loves his rocks. Steve tries very hard to impose this strange passion on me to no avail. However, that unfortunately doesn't get me out of the task of moving, re-arranging, piling and looking on with fake admiration.
We have also made an 'aha'…or maybe more of a 'duh' decision. Previously we were heating our little house using the central heat, which uses lots of propane, which costs lots of money, which we don't have. SO! we have been cutting up the fallen trees more and using our little wood burning stove correctly so that the whole house is cozy warm. Viola'! I suppose we have somewhat of an excuse seeing that we both originate from far warmer climes. The only real cost now is blood, sweat & swearing while chop, chop, chopping. It's not pretty seeing an outta shape, 45 year old suburbanite wielding a 10 pound splitting maul with wild abandon. Ruby knows best to stay faaaaarrrrrr away. Good girl!
Have to run, Steve's yelling to deal with our freshly made chicken stock - we'll let you know if it's thumbs up or down. Until next time, trudge on.
