So another relaxing day in Cape Town. We'd planned to go hiking up Table Mountain today. Mum had organised one of her friends who climbs regularly (in his late seventies) to take us up. Anyway, we woke up at 8-ish to the sound of rain - the whole mountain was covered in white cloud and a few more hours in bed seemed far more appealing. I'm ashamed to say that I think Neville and his regulars went ahead and braved it in their rain jackets ... and it did clear up a bit later on. He's been kind enough to give us a rain check, so hopefully we'll do it when back from Zimbabwe.
As the clouds cleared up a bit I did some experimenting with some Photo-processing software called PhotoMatix. It basically lets you blend over and under-exposed shots to give better colour range. Some of the results are in "Llundudno and the Mountain" album ... quite weird what you can do with basic technology now.
We had lunch at the parents' club - Kelvin Grove- with the Cawoods (old friends from Zimbabwe). They've driven down for CHristmas and New Year, and it was quite an eye-opener to hear some of their stories from back home. Price and forex controls seem to be having all sorts of bizzare effects on the economy, and the major ongoing exercise seems to be trying to work out the US Dollar Rate - where a US Dollar can buy you anthing from Z$50 000 (official rate), to Z$1 500 000 (USD cash) to Z$6 000 000 (Old Mutual share arbitrage) - very odd; it's going to be quite interesting to see when we get back up there.
For sunset we headed over to Llundudno beach, which was a bit grey, but still quite beautiful in it's own way - just amazing to see how much this city has to offer...
