So haven't written anything for a couple of days - mainly we've just been hanging out with the folks and doing a bit of general loafing in Cape Town. This city really does grow on you - there's so much to see & do.
On Saturday morning we got up, went to yoga and then shot off with the parents and Stephanie to Constantia market in Tokai forest. It's held in the grounds of a huge school - the Chrysalis project - which has been set up to help 17-25 year olds who can't get jobs. It basically does vocational training, has brilliant facilities, and has the most amazing setting, right up against the forest.
The produce was great - mainly foodie type stuff produced by regional farmers. In addition to all the normal olive oils, teas, biltongs, etc. - there were some really quirky stalls. One really interesting lady has a passion for Aloe Ferox - which is the main Aloe growing in the Cape. Part of the leaf is very bitter, so it has to be carefully prepared, but she's turned it into jams, pickles & juices .. it's really different tasting, and apparently very good for you.
We had a quick lunch (I had a biltong and melon salad, which sounds disgusting, but was actually pretty good), and then we popped down to Hout Bay. Gentle breezes and clear blue skies - but stupidly didn't put sunblock on for the first few minutes, and so my pasty white skin crisped up like a real tourist. Luckily I've got lots of Aloe juice to drink!
