Secker Street SE1
My address in 1997
This unassuming little pub: "the White Hart" was the local: I recall the discovery of a nice cold pint of cider! In fact, it was the only beverage cold enough for the hot Summer days!
My bedroom window looked out onto the pub ;which used to have colourful geraniums all over it...maybe times is hard!?
It's hard to describe the feeling of heading back inside the place I lived (door was unexpectedly open so I just walked in but was questioned as to how! Whoops! Meant to be, I say!). There's even a connection from walking under the Waterloo Bridge which used to be full of homeless people making the best of it! Obviously cleaned up to make way for the Yuppie bars n stalls all through Southbank now.
Even the street signs and the pavement bring back memories. The "Chippy" is still around the corner. I used to get a £1 of chips and a load of bread and eat like a king (well, so I thought) on the traditional 'chip butty'. I can taste it now; warm chips, smothered in ketchup and enveloped in white fresh bread! A typical dinner in those days!
...this is a sole traveller journey. I'm actually glad I'm here with my own thoughts. I imagine I'll probably not come back here again, but I just needed to 'feel' it once more.
It was a different time, I was a very different man, but it helped shape who I am today!
So happy to have experienced this amazing moment!
This is living!

LVO Beautiful ! I also retraced my steps when I revisited London in 2012/13.., the old house, the pub and the neighbourhood- cathartic to soak it up again and also as a very different man and a very different time - no need for me to return either - keep your great photos coming and thank you for sharing your thoughts
