Hi everyone, we have finally managed to get on the internet, had a really busy week in our campervan. We started off in the Atherton tablelands, we camped for the night at lake echam. The campsite was small and quiet and we were joined by lots of chickens in the camp kitchen when we were making tea, there was also a resident pig who we fed our scraps after tea. The next day it poured it down so we decided to move on rather than doing the waterfalll circuit as we had planned. We stopped off at a dairy on the way through the tablelands where we had afternoon tea with scones, cream and rainforest jam, as you can see from tristans face in the photos we really enjoyed that. That afternoon we arrived at our next campsite on mission beach, it was a nice spot but full of hippies so we moved on the next day to townsville. We spent our first afternoon in townsville on the beach and the second day we caught a ferry across to magnetic island. We really loved the island and went to a gorgeous beach for the day where the waves were huge which was fun. On our last day in townsville we spent the morning by the beachfront lagoon before moving on to airlie beach and the whitsundays. When we got to airlie beach it was quite late so we decided to treat ourselves and stay in a hotel and go out for tea which felt like luxury after the campervan which isnt that comfy! We had planned to go on a sailing trip for a few days but decided to do a day trip in the end after being told gale force winds were forecast. We set off the next day first thing for hamilton island, we hired a golf buggy to get around the island which tris had fun driving, the island is really small and we covered every road in about an hour, it was also inhabited by lots of friendly cockatoos which steal sugar packets from the cafes and take them up into the trees where they tear them open and eat them. We had a bbq luch on the boat before setting off for whitehaven beach which is gorgeous, pure white silicone sand and perfectly clear water, we spent the rest of the day here before sailing home having afternoon tea, cake and fruit on the way. The next day the wind had picked up as predicted and we set off for hervey bay which is over 1000km away. After 6 hours of driving we stopped in Yeppoon for the night and left early this morning for hervey bay. We arrived at about 1 and have booked onto a 3 day tour of fraser island and a whale watching trip. We will update the blog again when we get to Bribane on the 2nd.
Lots of love
Tris and Rach
