Hey everyone, we are back in Cairns after a few days in the rainforest. Before i let you know what we have been upto to answer your questions nicky, embarassingly yes i was given a child sized wet suit for the training in the pool!! And the masks were really suckered into our faces, when you go deeper the pressure gives you mask squeeze. Anyway we set off for the rainforest first thing monday morning, luckily we only had a morning with the rest of our group (there was a really annoying Vicky Pollard twin in our group who we couldnt wait to get away from after a few hours) to do a boardwalk where we saw a cassowary (big black bird with blue neck) apparently we were really lucky to see one, our guide had been in the rainforest for 8 years before they saw one!! We also did a daintree river cruise where we saw a couple of crocodiles and an area where they filmed part of the latest crocodile film, i think its called black water. Then we were dropped off at our accomodation which was really nice a quiet and spent the rest of the day by the pool relaxing. The next day we had breakfast in the middle of the rainforest at our hotels restaurant, we took full advantage of all the mini packets of honey and jam, tris wore his combats with big pockets and we covertly kept sneaking back and forth from the breakfast bar and stashing them away in his trousers, we now have a good two weeks supply to see us through breakfasts up until brisbane!! After breakfast we went off to Myall beach which is absolutely gorgeous, its a huge beach and was practically empty. We spent some of the day exploring the rock holes and found octapus, millions of crabs, sea cucumbers, christmas tree worms, fish and a sea snake. Tris picked up one of the many coconuts that were on the beach and after a lot of effort managed to peel it and crack into it, so we had something to snack on. The rest of our time we spent watching crabs running in and out of holes in the sand and make hundreds of tiny balls out of it. That night we had tea with a couple of dutch guys we met on the dive trip and then went on a night walk in the rainforest. On the nightwalk we saw some really big lizards, a brown tree snake, tree frogs, some type of rodent and some huge spiders!! It was good but i didnt enjoy having to turn the torch off every time we stopped, i kept imagining spiders crawling on me. On our last day we spent another morning by the pool before being picked up and taken to Mossman gorge, i didnt go swiimming because the water was so cold, but tris dived straight in. We got back into Cairns about 7 and were in bed for 8.30 really tired!! Today we met up with a friend of mine from school and sat by the lagoon on the front. Tomorrow we get our juicy camper van which we are excited about. Speak to you all soon.
Lots of love Rach and Tris
