After a nightmare flight feeling very tired from the night before we arrived in Melbourne. We stayed in the holiday inn on dads points which was really really nice, the staff thought we were Mr and Mrs Perry which was quite funny and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, including a free bottle of wine and late check out. We had a sightseeing trip for the day we got there, so after a quick nap at the hotel we got straight on the coach to Phillip island to see the fairy penguins. On the way we stopped off at a farm for devonshire tea and to feed the kangaroos and emus, tris managed to get pecked by a particularly aggressive one! Then we carried on to Phillip island, we stopped off at a really nice beach with great waves for surfing and then carried onto a place called Cowes for tea. After tea we drove along the cliff tops into protected national park to see where all the penguins have their burrows and saw loads of really cute wallabies. We arrived at the beach where the penguins come up out of the sea at about 7.30. We managed to get seats on an exclusive viewing platform, our travel agent had booked us onto it without us realising so that was a nice surprise and meant we had really good seats so close to the penguins you could have touched them. As soon as it got dark hundreds and hundreds of really cute little penguins started making their way up the beach to their burrows they were adorable and really funny to watch, they have such short legs and are quite chubby so they kept tripping over things and bumping into each other. On our final day in Melbourne we were up early again and set off for the great ocean road. We stopped off at Bells beach on the way and then carried on along the coast stopping for photos and little walks. Its a really spectacular coastline, it reminded us of the west coast of Ireland but a bit warmer. That night we went out for chinese and then got an early night ready for our flight to New Zealand the next day.
