So after Manjimup we travelled back up to Perth via Mandurah, it was a lovely day so we headed to Kings Park, it actually felt a bit warmer. Kings Park is really pretty and you can see the skyscrapers of Perth and the ferries going across, there were green parrots flying about...its was beautiful! The only downer was there were loads of police there who had just found the shallow grave of a murder victim :-(
So we left Perth and went to the Pinnacles desert which was about a three hour drive away. There were odd limestone pillars in a desert, loads of them which was quite interesting to look at for a while! We then headed to Jurien Bay which was really gorgous, we really started to notice the weather warming up now...not to hot but enough for us to spoil ourselves with a BBQ and a few cold ones! We sat on the beach and watched a glorious sunset, the beaches are so amazing here, white sand and turqoiuse water...just not warm enough to jump in yet though! We had a few days in Jurien Bay before heading up again to Geraldton where we did a bit of food shopping and stayed just oustide in a place called Chapman Valley, Kam thought he'd be very helpful by doing a bit of Hooter maintenance and gave him a big dose of oil....as soon as we started the engine up Hooters erupted with smoke and as we drove up a hill smoke filled everywhere!!! We pulled into a carpark and Kam fiddled around to see what was wrong, he came to the conclusion he'd put too much oil in so tried to let some out, unfortunatly it went everywhere, a massive puddle all over the carpark! We had to cover it with sand and after that it seemed fine! The camp place we were planning to go to was too far away to get there after all the mucking around with Hooters so we just drove up the road for a while and found a sign for Oakabella Homestead, which had a camping symbol on it. We thought we'd go and investigate, we drove about 3kms down this red dirt road, it was really windy and there were loads of grey clouds. We came across this little cafe and went in, there was a really freindly lady in there, to stay there the night with Hooters was really cheap and there were really clean toilets and showers...it all seemed really nice! We though we'd have a cup of tea in the cafe before we set up Hooters and settled down. The lady gave us some books about Oakabella Homestead and all around the walls were pictures of Oakabella...I didnt pay much attention until I noticed something saying TOP 5 MOST HAUNTED PLACE IN W.A and then there were pics that people had sent in of mysterious blobs and unexplainable things that they had taken here! Just as I was looking at this the wind seemed to howl through the door and I started to get a bit scared!!! Kam didnt seem that bothered, we asked if we could walk around the old homestead which had pretty much been left as it was, it did feel a bit eery...you can see from our pics how grey the clouds were! There seemed to be alot of bones about aswell. We started to wonder if our stay here would be like something out of the Texas chainsaw massacre.....it got dark and we sat looking up at the stars as the cloud had cleared now, when we switched the lights out we could hear a thump thump thump outside, feeling a bit nervous we peeked out the curtain and it was a Kangaroo!!!! We slept after that and although nothing scary did happen, it felt quite nice to leave the next day!
Next we went up to Kalbarri, the drive seemed to take forever to get there, just endless roads with nothing but bush either side and dead Kangaroos on the sides. Kalbarri was nice though, we had to stay on a proper caravan park place with all the old people again. Dont know if we said in our last blog about all the old people!? Everywhere we go its jam packed with old people in caravans, they have their names written on them and then the name of the caravan like 'Cecil & Pat, Voyager' they all eat BBQ meat everynight and have really nice 4 wheel drives! We were starting to wonder if there was anyone under the age of 60 in W.A?!! In Kalbarri we stayed next to this old German guy and his wife, he seemed to be a bit of a nutter...he had road signs he had nicked stuck on his van, and he kept wandering over to us and muttering on about odd things. We went out to Kalbarri national park and saw 'Natures Window' which is a rock formation like a window and we had a little walk around a gorge, there were loads of flies everywhere! The morning we left Kalbarri there were Pelicans being fed on the beach, they were so cute, they are so big with ridiculous long beaks, they reminded us of little old men waddling around!
We then made our way up to Denham, another long drive of nothingness! On the way into Denham we stopped at Shell Beach, which was a beach covered in little white shells...we were the only people on it!!! It was really gorgous anhd the water was chystal clear! Couldnt believe our eyes when we pulled into Denham (Shark Bay) the water was even more turqoiuse that we'd seen it and it was so so calm. It just looked stunning! We had to check into another caravan park, next to a really horrible old lady who kept complaining about us really loudly to her husband!!! We went to a place called little Lagoon just outside Denham, we were looking forward to having a paddle in this stunning sandy lagoon but when we got there there was a massive Danger sign about Dome Fish in the water, so we had to admire it from the dry land :-(
We had a day at Monkey Mia which is a little drive away from Denham, the main attraction here is the wild Dolphins that come right up to the beach every morning to be fed. We got up really early and as we walked down to the beach there was already a small crowd of people and there right in front of them we saw a dolphin!!! We hurried down to the crowd and there was about 5 dolphins just swimming about! It was amazing, you were'nt aloud to touch them and could only feed them if you were chosen by one of the volunteers. It was so surreal to seem them though just splashing about and some of them had their babies with them...so cute!!!! We took 70 pics of them!! There were 3 feeding sessions and on the second session I got chosen to feed one of them but it wasnt interested in the food at all and just played with the fish!!!! We had such a lovely time in Monkey Mia, we hadnt seen anything like that before! We also saw some more pelicans aswell. We decided to stay outside of Denham on our last night (away from the horrid lady) at a place called Eagles Bluff, we were the only people there but we saw a lovely sunset again.
Next stop is Carnarvon / Exmouth!!!!!!
