After Denham and Monkey Mia we made our way further north too Carnarvon where we stayed for the weekend, there was a massive disused communication station thing there and that was about the only interesting thing there! We also managed to go to church which was very small and freindly! So then we made our way up to Coral Bay which was very busy, but very pretty. We spent the night parked on a gravel pit and planned to go into Coral Bay the next day. We woke up eager to go but Hooters refused to start, we got very panicky and a man tried to help us out but we just couldnt figure out what was wrong! All we could do was pray and pray. In the end we had to call RAC, and got told it would cost about 200 dollars to tow Hooters to Exmouth. We felt really crap and then the man that was helping us was trying to clean the rotary head with a stone when he noticed a lead had come loose from the distributer cap! He put it back in and Hooters was bought back to life!!! We knew it was all the praying! So luckily we cancelled the RAC and decided to drive to Exmouth that day anyway. The drive up to Exmouth was quite gruesome, on the road there seemed to be loads of these cricket/grasshopper things that decided to divebomb Hooters when we drove towards them. When we made a stop Hooters was absoloutly covered in Insect bits, we tried to poke them off with a stick but some of them were still alive...pretty gross!
We made it to Exmouth and settled down in a caravan park, we chilled out, explored the town (which wasnt veryu big) we managed to see the moon eclipse aswell where the moon went red! As Exmouth is on the Ningaloo Reef we thought we would book ourselves on a tour (our only big one in Oz) We chose a Manta Ray, Humpback Whale and snorkelling tour and really looked forward to it! Unfortunatly that night the wind really picked up and was really strong, it carried on the next day and the trip was cancelled. We decided to spend a few days on the Cape Range National Park as you can stay there if you have a permit. So we got a permit and chose to stay in a place called Kurrajong. It was right next to the sea and the reef. Yuo could see the waves out at sea crashing against the reef as it was still quite windy. Staying in the park was lovely, we had kangaroos jumping about right in front of us and two of them were having a play fight!
We explored the National Park, we found a gorgous place called Sandy Bay where the sand was virtually white, the water was turquise and we were about the only people there!! We had a swim and it was lovely. Just as we were leaving a man got chatting to us and said had we been to Turqoise Bay yet to do the drift snorkel, where the current can take you along while you view the coral. We said we hadnt and we didnt have any masks, he said he did and he was going up there, we drove up to Turquoise Bay behind him and his wife and when we got there we said we were a bit nervous as the current was quite strong, only to find out he was an experienced diver and had rescue diver qualifications aswell! So he said that he would come out with us, unfortunatly I completely chickened out when I got in the water as I could feel how strong the current was, so Kam went out with him instead and had a great time viewing the coral and saw parrott fish and other cool things! I sat on the beach and chatted to the wife! It was so nice and amazing that they met us! Gods looking out for us again! We spent the eveining watching a glorious sunset.
The next day we went back to Sandy Bay as it was so lovely and went swimming again, and then went and looked at the other places on the National Park, we had a great time, and Kam cleverly made a homemade shower that was very much appreciated.
We then left the National Park and stayed in a caravan park again, we found out the trip we originally wanted to go on was on again the next day so we booked ourselves on it and in the evening the park we stayed at showed a film music and lyrics so we didnt have to play scrabble!
The trip was amazing, we had to meet at the dive centre at 12 and we got wetsuits, masks and flippers. We got on the boat at Bundegi Beach and the water was so calm, we set off and could already see whales in the distance. The tour uses a spotter plane to spot the manta rays so the plane hadnt gone up yet so we had a chance to do some snorkelling, it was a bit nerveracking getting in the water but once we were in it was amazing, to see all the coral and all the fish swimming about, its a completely different world out there! It was really good fun but soon the boat blew its horn and the skipper said that the spotter plane was up and had spotted some manta rays, we sped off and got ready to jump in the water but as we were getting close the spotter plane said that it wasnt manta rays :-( so we went whale spotting instead. There were lots of them in the distance and it was amazing to see them splashing about, there were a few baby ones and they kept spurting water out, we also saw dolphins swimming about. The funniest thing we saw was two fish jump out the water and then fly off! They were flying fish, it was really odd to see them pop out the water and then fly like a bird really fast!! We also spotted a big turtle and loads of jellyfish. The spotter plane reported that there were no manta rays about so we were all abit dissapointed but the whales were entertaining. The boat stopped for a while and we were all admiring a whale in the distance when the skipper said theres some bubbles in front of the boat it could mean theres a ......and as he was saying it a whale lept out of the water right in front of us!!! It was amazing and so big. The whale then did a bit of showing off and rolled around splashing his flippers in the water, we managed to get a video of the whale showing off so will put that up soon. But that whale made the day, we were a bit dissapointed about the mantas but its almost as if the whale was sent to our boat to entertain us! We had a great day, and a great time in Exmouth overall, we were there for about a week and loved every minute!
