We went to Warnambool which is near the beginning of the Great Ocean Road and stayed in a caravan park at a discount price because it was being renovated. We had extremely well needed showers....we hadnt stayed at a park for about 5 days (yes we did smell a bit). Warnambool had a long walk along the beach you could do, so we went down there and walked some of it!! The beach was really nice, Warnambool itself was just like any other larger town. We decided to go to Port Fairy the next day and on the way we stopped at Tower Hill nature park, it was lovely there its an extinct volcano so we walked up lots of hills and we saw a wild wallaby in the bush, then we walked on a bit and came face to face to 2 roos, a mum and young one. It was so sweet the mum was just eating but the little one watched every move we made...I went ape with the camera again!!!
Port Fairy was a lovely little place too, we went for a walk around the town and it was warm and sunny, there were all these really posh houses on the riverfront which we gazed enviously at!! We liked Port Fairy so much we stayed there for another night!
Then we made our way along to the Great Ocean Road, heading back through Warnambool and down to the Ocean. The weather was really bad and big black clouds gloomed over us. We went and saw some rock formations in the sea, we saw the Bay of Islands, London Bridge and another one (!?) it then decided to tip it down and we were right next to the 12 apostles but didnt have any raincoats so we went and stayed in Princetown which is really close by, it rained pretty much for the rest of the day and we sat in Hooters drinking tea!
The weather was bettter the next day and we made it first to Loch Ard Gorge where a ship was shipwrecked some time ago and there were only 2 survivors, in this area we saw a blowhole which was a spooky big pool attached to the sea by a tiny tunnel and when the waves came in it made a big roaring noise. We also saw a place called the grotto which was another tunnly place in the rocks. We went on to the 12 apostles and had to walk under an underpass to get to them, they looked exactly like they did on the pics but could only see 6!
We made our way down to Cape Ottway lighthouse next, on the way down there was a road side warning sign of Koalas, we were just saying to eachother it would be lovely to see a Koala when we drove past 2 ladies looking up at a tree. We stopped and sure enough there was a little Koala up a tree munching on some leaves!! We looked around some more and spotted about 7 in trees dotted about!!! We looked at them for ages, we drove down to the lighthouse and found out you had to pay to go in, we thought the Koalas were more interesting so we went back to watch them again!!
Next we came to Apollo Bay, it was a lovely little town, big green hill surrounded the town rolling right down to the Ocean. We ended up staying the night there as the free camp we wanted to stay at was closed!
The Ocean road was really good now leaving Apollo Bay the roads were really windy and right on the edge of the Ocean, there were towering hills to one side and Ocean the other side. We stopped in Lorne, which was similar to Apollo Bay. We went and looked at Teddy Lookout where we had a great view over the Ocean and forests, then we went to Erskine falls which were very pretty and gave us some more exercise as we walked to the base and then up again.
We stayed in a free camp up a really long dirt road and again were entertained by lots of animals noises all night!! We then drove to the end of the Ocean road at Torquay.
Next stop Melbourne (Neighbours!!!)
