We made our way from Mt Gambier up to the Grampians, it was only about a 2 hour drive away. We found a nice free camp for the night on a quiet road, we could hear all the birds and other things making noises, it was really nice. Kam said he would cook dinner that night which I was fine about. We have been trying to jazz up the boring pasta and tomatoes as we are sick of eating the same thing every day, so Kam thought he'd put some herbs in some oil to try and make it taste better...as he was cooking a huge flame came out of the frying pan and hit the roof, we both panicked as this frying pan of fire was just burning in Kams hands, all our bedding was really close to the flame and I threw my cup of tea at Kam (it missed) after lots of panic Kam blew on it and it just went out. We were so fortunate that it wasnt more serious, God definatly looking after us again! The roofnow has a crispy singed look to it, we ate our dinner in silence but were able to laugh about it later that night!!
The following day we went on a little drive about, the hills were so pretty and the weather was pretty good. We came across Mackenzie Falls, we did alot of walking, one walk up to see the falls from the distance and then we walked down a steep hill and loads of steps to get to the bottom of the falls. The Falls were really stunning and it was really pretty. We then huffed and puffed all the way up the hill again, we were overtaken by a few old ladies and realised how unfit we both are!!!! We then drove to a view point where we could see all around the hills, they seemed to have a blueish tinge to them, it was really peaceful. We drove onto a little town next called Halls Gap. It was a really nice little place surrounded by big hills and had a real holiday feel to it. We spent the night in another free camp surounded by lots of animal noises again!
We headed back into Halls Gap the next day and were keen to see some wild Koalas but were a bit dissapointed to find that no one had seen one there for about a year! We had a little walk anyway and found a place called Venus Baths which were little rockpools that looked like they would be really nice to have a dip in if it was a bit warmer! We went back to Hooters and then drove to some more falls called Silverband falls, we walked for a while before finding the falls, they were really strange because there was no pool at the bottom of them..the water just went straight underground which was a bit odd!?
Anyway we only had a few days at the Grampians but really liked it, the scenery was stunning and it was really peaceful everywhere!
Next stop the Great Ocean Road!
