Well after having one heck of a full english breakfast in Torquay which some people might say 'how can they justify that'and we can reply 'try eating pasta, sweetcorn and tinned tomatoes for 6 days on the trot', we felt totally within our boundries to justify buying one. We made the short hop up to Melbourne joining a the M1 and bypassing Geelong as we felt the urge to get to Melbourne. This is the busiest we've experienced in all of OZ so far and we felt a little out of our comfort zones. It reminded us of London, with all the little suburbs and their own high streets. Well we got to the caravan park which was north of the CBD (Central Business District), and the navigator done a great job getting us there!!!! We popped out to the local supermarket and got some dinner and had a fairly quiet evening as it was raining!!!
Next day we decided to head into Melbourne centre and had a fairly short walk to the tram which took us direct into the centre, it was cool seeing the sights without having to drive. First stop was Melbourne Museum and rumour has it the original Robinson family set is on display here from the mother of all shows NEIGHBOURS...... So we pay our $8 entry fee and decide to wander around, withholding the tension and excitment was now getting very difficult, i'd dremt of the day iI could see and smell Kylies wedding cake, ahhh to smell that set.... instead much to Ellies disgust we witnessed a man throwing up in the Mind and Body display. Well guys the time had arrive and we made our eager way to the section called Australian culture, ofcourse Ellie needed a wee on the way there, now we don't want any silly accidents do we!!! Turning the corner we could see a sign, getting closer it said ÉXHIBITION CLOSED DUE TO REFURBISHBENT', ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! As the KFC addict Ellie has turned out to be, she moaned and moaned that we could've had a full on meal for the price of the entry, I had to restrain her and calm her down. Trying to explain that we had to be more cultural, but that old man in the KFC picture just kept talking to me tooo!!! We made a hasty retreat and made our way to downtown Melbourne!!! Melbourne had a New York feel to it, incorporating the new trams and then the city circle trams which were a bit like the San Francisco trams, and being set out on a grid system. We saw lots of business people wandering around doing their things and we looked up and could see 50 floors of sky scraper, it was really cool. We used the internet at a really cheap Cafe. We made our way back to the caravan park and went out and got a really cheap Dominos pizza and got a free drink, mmm!!!!
Again we made our way into town and this time done alot more walking. We went to a massive market and bought some bread, cheese, ham, salady stuff and went to park and ate, really cheap and fairly healthy. We then caught the city tram to Federation Square which I guess is a bit like Leicester Square in London, a massive meeting place for the young and trendy, unlike us!!! We then walked up and alleyway which had really cool graffitti patterns and pictures. After which we walked through the main CBD to get our tram back. Melbourne is very green, very cool and the tram/train/bus network is really eco friendly......
So we left the caravan park and went in hunt of Ramsey street, We drove through traffic jams and stopped for a drinky poos in a shopping mall (we may have sneaked a couple of pies in too). After a anxious are we lost moment we arrived. Ramsey street seemed smaller than we had previously seen on the famous show. Never the less we did get some pics, but as there was a security guard there, we felt a little sheepish to attempt any strange poses... So we'd doen it ramsey street was off our wish list, Jim ahd fixed it for us and I even managed to get goose bumps at the thought kylie was on this turf.....
So off to Dave and Di's who live south of Melboure. We met them in Manjimup and they offered their kind hand out to us. We got to their house and parked up in their drive. No sooner had we settled down out came a plate full of sandwiches. We chatted and realised how hospitible they were.... They dropped their daughter in town and we went along for the ride, got shown the sights and whre the famous Neighbours night was.... We returned to be offered their daughters bed and it was really comfortable. Di had rustled up some Spag Bol and cracked open a bottle of wine, YUMMY!!!! We watched some T.V and then off to bed.
Well my time has expired now and Part 2 , the infamous Neighbours night part will commence very soon...............
