So my last night in Margaret River was spent at Wharncliff Mill the campsite eco retreat I lived in and worked at many months ago, the owners had a leaving BBQ for Chris as he was still living and working there so me, James, Kate, Connor and Danny went over to join the fun it was nice night being back there as they had the fire going it brought back happy memories of when we were all living there having loadsa fun. We then came back home and watched Drift the surfing movie that was filmed in Margaret River it was a massive pile of s***. We all watched it in silence and then it finished and we were all most dissapointed with it. At least I've seen it now anyways haha.
In the morning I was all packed up and sorted Alannah, Hazel and Kate came over. I went and got Chris and then Ben came over too wave us off it was so sad as Chris wont be coming back to see them all whereas I am. I'm going to miss Jim so much though it will be longest time we've ever spent apart since we met in January so weird. So of course our first port of call was Busselton McDonalds! I got double cheese burger, fries and strawberry milkshake I was so happy. Perfect start to the west coast tour I think, We then went to Busselton Jetty which is the longest Jetty in the world I think and then headed on to Perth.
On the way to Perth we were proper freaking out as the traffic was absolutely mad - by mad I mean quite normal traffic but being in Margaret River where theres no cars and traffic lights or more than one lane it was a shock to the system! It was hillarious to be honest looking back but we were both like 'What the fook'. We went straight to a shopping mall for clothes I got 3 tops and a pair of shorts in cotton on for $30 happy me! we spent ages looking at clothes as weve been deprived for so long.
We then went to a hostel checked in and went and met Alex Bennet and Sheriann former Margaret River residents! We met in the Brass Monkey and had a fair few ciders and beers. Kat then arrived who wanted to come on our road trip in the morning, she is german 24 years old and seems like a lot of fun so we have a road trip partner sorted so we were happy! We headed to the Lucky Shag a water front bar that is well good and they sell Stowford Press! We then went to Carnagies as Kyle from my Salmat Melbourne days works there and it was Pub Quiz night and I was meeting Jess and Sam also from Salmat Melbourne days there! It was so lush to see them all! Especially Kyle he was one of the people I spent so much time with in Melbs it was lush, we missed Tom as he is back in England and them 2 were always together. So we ended up winning the pub quiz but Me, Chris, Sheriann and Alex had left by then so we missed out on free drinks there dammit. The only time I ever win a pub quiz I wasnt even there for the glory dammit.
We ended up in Mustang Salsa Dancing... seriously. It was brilliant, this lovely old man took me under his wing and I was obviously terrible as I have no dance skills but i was awesome by the end of the night. The man did break my handbag though as the strap was hanging on by a thread so finally broke. Boo. I was telling Chris all night it was buy a bride night as there was a lot of thai and russian brides there. We then headed for chips before bed and we found the best chippy ever they did cheesy chips with mcdonalds curry sauce! OMG wow! I also got two falafels it was the best takeaway ever basically! Good night in Perth and good reunions!!
So we woke up obviously very hungover and ill in the morning and we were picking Kat up at 8am, so we picked her up and went straight to KMart and Coles to get ourselves sorted for the trip, this included 2 boxes of weetabix, 8 cartons of long life milk, beans, spaghetti. We also got 15 litres of goon and 18 litres of water... sorted! And we finally set off for the Pinnacles.
The Pinnacles was absolutely amazing its such a large collection of rocks it sounds poo probably but it was awesome it was so hot though and there was about 5 million flies no exageration! they were very annoying!! We then headed to Jurien Bay, checked straight into a campsite on the beach - perfect. There was a snake on the campsite that day however and this man kept shouting about it as it was in his back garden of his holiday home haha. Thank god I didnt see it. The water was amazing in Jurien Bay the Jetty was lush too, I am a sucker for a beautiful beach and WA has the best selection I have ever came accross probably. For tea that night our first taste of warm weetabix and warm milk. MMM. We drink goon and listen to music and then bed time. My sleeping bag is so warm I was boiling all night, Kat n Chris on the other hand are freezing all night bless them.
So in the morning after hearing them whinge about being freezing haha we head to Geraldton, of course we end up having KFC there as they had one and we arent sure when we'll get junk food again. I dont even like KFC to be honest but it was bloody amazing. I wish I had went for hungry jacks instead though haha, I definitely still need one of them! on the beach in Geraldton I was so desperate for a wee so I headed to the public toilets which are shaped like rubix cubes they are pretty cool. Unfortunately some Abbos were dealing drugs in them so I didnt go in for safety reasons, there is alot of abbos in Geraldton. In Margaret River there isnt one Abbo so its a bit shocking when you see tons of them all of a sudden, and they are mainly dodgy characters so we are happy to be not staying there too long.
We found a water park in Geraldton which was cool I ran through it getting wet it was fab I love kids play parks! The beach there has nice parts which are gorgeous but also awful parts that are eyesores as it is a mining town its very industrial looking. We visit the old town Gaol which was a prison back in the day its now a whole bunch of craft shops inside the cells its really cool! But also sad as the cells were so small. Chris poses next to a 'Any offers taken' sign but he is still awaiting one offer poor lad.
We then drive on to Kalbarri, we get booked into a camping caravan park right on the river front which is gorgeous. In the morning we go Pelican feeding which happens everyday. Chris gets picked to throw a fish at them it is hilarious and also scary as birds that size really freak me out. It's lovely in Kalbarri we all love it, its very relaxed and chilled out and the river is gorgeous. We originally thought it was the sea as its so beach like but it turns out it's the river. The beaches arent actually that great here although of course I have been spoiled massively in good old Margs.
So we go to the National Park for the day which is turns out has the worst unsealed road ever, poor Marina did not know what to do. The road is 7km in and then you get to a T junction where one way is Natures Window and the other way is the Z Bend and gorges one is 7KM away and the other is 5KM away on these lovely bumpy roads. So we head to Natures window first its absolutely gorgeous, its literally a window made out of rock that's god knows how many years old. We spend tons of time in there posing in the window, its such a beautiful place. We then head to the Zbend view point where you get view of the gorges that are shaped in a Z funnily enough, there is a section of rock that you look through for a amazing view Chris decides to climb on despite all of the 'danger, loose rock' signs everywhere and climbs up and is lying on the rock and hes like 'oh s*** this rock is moving' hes like a good 200ft above the gorge what a tool so he gets down really slowly I think he proper scared himself the stupid idiot. We then climb down to the Z bend gorge and it's a proper rock climbing expedition with random ladders all over the place its very confusing trying to figure out how to get there through a lot of it but we make it and of course no one is there (I love WA no one is here) so new chill out round the gorge for ages, I sunbathe on a rock in the middle of the gorge and Kat and Chris go off on more climbing of rocks down the gorge. I cant be arsed and focus more on my suntan. Climbing back to the top is very hardgoing! I am absolutely fooked by the end of it. It is so hot here too there is signs all over the national park saying as its total desert its basically always 10degrees hotter here than the main town and reminding you all the time that heat kills and to keep hydrated. So dangerous being here in Oz I love living on the edge haha.
That night we realise we need bread so me n Chris head to the IGA having no idea of the time and of course we get there and its shut as it shuts at 6? We obviously forgot we were in WA again! Oops. So we ask in the Caravan Park to see if they have any other shops near by and the lady tells us to run as the one over the road shuts in 10 mins. It turns out to be a proper trek away and I am running up the street in my Flip Flops and Chris is barefoot as he is now an offical aussie apparently? We have to run past 2 pubs full of people just looking at us like 'wtf' haha. We make it anyways and on the way back all the lucky people in the pub see us stuff our faces with crisps as a reward for making it. Classy as.
The next day is Saturday and we head back to the national park to see some more gorges to be honest they are a bit rubbish compared to what we saw yesterday but at least we went anyway. WA is so remote place with so few tourists they don't always man the national park entrances you just complete a slip and put the money in a honesty box type thing its pretty cool.
So after the national park we head to Hamelin Pool to see the Stromatalites (spelling is definitely not correct here I don't think) they are basically really old rocks in the sea that help us breathe maybe? Whatever they are I think they look s*** and basically are absolutely s***. Not impressed at all. Chris says I'm not cultured as I don't appreciate them, I tell him I'm a lot more cultured than him as I am not impressed by their age and if he wants to be cultured to get himself to china to see some real stone culture in form of the Terracotta Warriors. These stone things are crap and what makes them worse is that if you touch them you wreck them so strictly no swimming there so we leave asap as its so hot and I need to get in some water . We end up at Shell Beach which is a gorgeous beach made entirely of teeny tiny shells. Its so pretty and amazing to see. You have to walk for ages to actually get into the sea the water is so shallow like a inch high for like 500 metres. We make a sign in the shells saying Team Barina which is our travelling name haha.
We head to Monkey Mia which is a holiday resort just up from a town called Denham. Its basically got places for all kindsa money. Fancy beach apartments, a backpackers, Caravan Sites and camping areas. We go for non powered camping of course and its amazing. We have 1 pub, a beach bar, a restaurant, a pool, a hot tub and of course the sea which holds the famous Dolphins which is the whole reason we are here of course. We pop our tent up and head straight for the beach and straight away we see Dolphins swimming about. Its totally breath taking to see them just playing so casually near us. So we are already agreed we love it here. That night we befriend to Aussie girls called Sharn and Amy we get then drunk on goon then make friends with 3 french boys and we all end up on the beach drinking goon, vodka n rum. I eventually can not take any more alcohol so head off home, its pitch black and I cant see a thing so I'm walking through bushes and trees imagining all the snakes and spiders that may be living in there. That night I had already seen a RedBack Spider for the first time ever in the camp kitchen which did of course freak me out as I think they are killers. On the way back to the tent I get a teeny bit lost and end up desperate for a wee so I wee possibly on someones camper van? Who knows either way I felt better for it. I am so classy!
On the Sunday Morning we get up super early as its dolphin feeding time from 7.45, before that I have breakfast, wash my dishes and as I'm heading back to the tent a emu chases me around my tent maybe 2 times until I jumped in the tent and hid for my life. There are Emus just wandering around everywhere here its horrible! My bird phobia is growing more and more each day. So we head to the dolphin show and it is incredible. They come to like a metre away from you. I almost cry it is so beautiful to see them all close up. They have a no touching rule here which is good as obviously they are wild animals. We learn all about them then they bring out the fish (they only have 5 feeding dolphins as the rest need to learn how to hunt) so only a few people get picked to feed the maximum fish they feed each dolphin is 5 fish but some only get 2. Of course I don't get picked but its ok as they were right up next to me anyways so I was so happy with just seeing so many at once. Probably one of the best things I have ever seen.
We then head to Eagle Bluff a view point over the coastline from there we spot sharks, mantra rays and a turtle! We are all buzzing at the shark spotting. We end up being there for ages in awe. Me and Chris then go to Ocean Park where its like an aquarium but you get a guided toured around all the sealife so you learn loads about them all. They do shark feeding there and it Is crazy to see how strong they are, they were feeding them from a fishing line and one of the sharks would not let go so I got some awesome pics of its teeth!! All the stuff there was really interesting and we got to meet Bob the turtle who kept coming up out of the water to say hello it was so funny I could literally not stop laughing. There was also this sweet little shark who did the same it was a woolabang shark (abbo name obviously) it was ugly but cute with it. They did stone fish feeding, these are like really nasty fish that look like coral rock and they sting you when you stand on them and you can die from it and if you don't die you are in so much pain. Nice. They have awful teeth too when they did the feeding they move so quick for the food its like lightening. Ocean Park was super good because the people who run it absolutely love their job, they were so passionate it was amazing.
We then headed to Blue Lagoon which is of course a blue lagoon it is so gorgeous but full of stonefish so we had been warned to not swim there as its really dangerous place to swim so we just stopped for a break then headed back to chill at our own beach which was nice. We of course saw more dolphins! We also saw a birds nest full of teeny birds in the backpacker quarters as we were walking through!! It has basically been the best day ever for seeing wild animals. On the night we had a BBQ with the Aussie girls which was lovely then me, Sharn and Chris headed to the pub and Kat and Amy went to bed. So we chilled in the Monkey Bar for a good while it was lush.
Today I got up early again for the dolphin feeding again and saw a whole different bunch of dolphins and they were acting up more for the crowd today too so it was awesome, Chris came and met me halfway through it then when the fish feeding came around again the lady picking in front of us picked a old couple and I said to Chris 'dammit we should have got just married t shirts made so we get picked for stuff' and then she picked two little boys to feed them then she looked at me then the people either side of me and said 'anyone in a group' so I jumped and was like 'we are' so off we went and I got to feed a Dolphin!! Oh my god!! Best moment ever!! Seriously!! I am absolutely buzzing. I got to feed the cool dolphin too called Puck she has shark bites and scratches all over her fins. So yeah I fed a dolphin guys!! Hi Fives all round! I have been excited about this all day. So Monkey Mia has been very sucessful for me!! Tomorrow we head to Coral Bay via a stop in Canarvon which is some kind of hick bogan town I think.
So that's my west coast update so far guys. 7 days in and I am having the time of my life!! Driving so far up the country on the gorgeous empty long dusty roads is amazing too I am absolutely loving it.
Much love hugs and dolphin kisses to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
