To get from the terminal to the plane, we had to board a bus to take us out onto the tarmac. The choir tried to do sing Vindo, but it turned out horribly. Maybe it was the lack of sleep. It's been a long time since I've had to walk across tarmac and up the steps onto a plane, but it was a small enough plane that there was no need for a proper gate. The plane was tiny, just four across and had rotary propellers.
I'm also pretty sure the man sitting next to me was a mob boss or something else illegal. He had several different passports and medical slips he was keeping in his man-purse. I tried my best to to fall asleep because I wanted to look out the window a little and I didn't want to fall asleep next to a weird man. But luckily the flight was pretty short and it wasn't too long before we touched down in Riga.
It was lovely to finally be finished with the flights. I had a good stretch in the baggage claim while we all waited for our bags. Thankfully, everything actually arrived! Right after meeting with our tour guide, Daniel, who'd be with us the entire choir trip we found out bus. I managed to snag the seats by the back door, which meant bigger window and ledge to put stuff on. Cosette was more than happy to sit with me.
We were then driven straight to supper with me wide awake again and taking pictures of everything we passed. The restaurant was really cool. When we were driving up to it, we weren't really sure if we'd be going there because outside was a carnival ride. Apparently it's a pretty popular place to eat and it has a few attractions right next to it too. We didn't have time to do anything besides have supper, though. The restaurant was nice - we had a whole section to ourselves upstairs and a few big tables. They had some pretty neat chairs as well.
Dinner was a serve yourself from the platters on the table type deal. There was shrimp and fennel salad, salmon and chicken dishes, and desserts. Frankly, it was just nice to sit down and have a proper meal. After supper we had some time to explore the restaurant's three levels (and go to a proper bathroom). It was a little like a castle with a dark basement and a waterfall running down into it from outside. There was even a pagoda and a giant woodchuck made of wood outside.
Then it was back on the bus for a 4+ hour ride into Lithuania to Kaunas. I had trouble staying awake for a bit, despite the new and beautiful scenery, but sitting and talking with Cosette helped. The landscape was a lot like the prairies. Flat land and lots of farms. Even the light was pretty similar with the sun not setting until really late at night.
Finally, at 1am, we made it to our hotel in Kaunas. I was awake and feeling pretty dirty from the long trip, so Siobhan, who I'm roomed with, and I agreed to take showers before going to bed. Shower was a little leaky, but felt amazing. Which Siobhan was taking a shower I facetimed Zach to show him I was alive and had finally made it. Once the lights were off, I was out cold.
