When it was time to get ready for the competition part of things, we slipped into our uniforms in the basement and then trekked up to a window-filled room right in the corner of the building with lots of water to drink and seats all around the outside of the room. We were given a few moments to warm up a little in uniform before having a bit of quiet meditation time before being shuffled out to line up to compete. We could hear muffled singing from where we were lined up outside the hall and down the stairs. What lovely comradery we had. We were all cheering each other on, reminding everyone that we were fantastic and that we were going to do amazingly. It was quite a moment in itself.
Then we filed into the hall right after the last group and into our places on the risers. Our set was: Vita de la mia Vita, Bogoroditse, Love Song, and Prometheus. We. Killed. It. It was amazing. We were perfectly in pitch the entire time. Especially on Prometheus, where it's so easy to change keys. An adjudicator and John, both checked their tuning forks after we'd finished, and John's smile was one of the best things I think I've seen in a long time.
We were given free time again after that. We talked to some other choirs from Wales and Malaysia, but after that decided to go check out a clothing store called 'Reserved' that was supposed to be really good. We found some cheap shirts that had 'Say Yes' printed on them and managed to get enough for the six girls in our dorm room. We had to run back to our meeting spot because it was time for the bus to drive us back to the dorm rooms so we could get ready for dinner.
All the girls in our dorm wore our new matching tshirts. John even made a 'proud dad' face at us. Dinner was at the hotel right next to our dorm rooms, but all the way on the top floor with a fantastic view of the bridge, the river and the old part of the city. We talked a lot about our performance and how we did. Everyone was pretty excited that we'd done so well. Just a matter of where we place next to the other choirs.
We danced back to the dorms after supper and stayed up talking in the rooms after.
