"I'm back!"
Finally I'm back on my blog!! Apologies for the blank space for a while! The last couple of weeks have been a fully blown adjustment period and settling in process, one that has taken me much longer than expected, and I suspect is not yet over with J. The rhythm of life in Ghana though is like the music here, sometimes a crazy techo beat, others a traditional drum and a beautiful women singing, and I feel really lucky to have landed in such a vibrant, colourful, friendly country!
Since my last blog, and the long and exhausting 4 day journey 'up north' that followed, life's been full with moving into my new home in Zebilla, getting to know the town and daily life here, meeting my neighbours (and the parade of animals that roam around our houses), practicing the language, figuring out where and how to buy food, getting to know the other volunteers, and making a bit of a 'start' in my volunteering post.
All of that in 40 degree heat! Flip it is SO HOT. I honestly thought I was going to MELT!!!!! Some days I dreamt about penguins and ice cream sundaes (thanks Hannah), and others I just wanted to crawl in the fridge and hide (which could have been a waste of time if the electricity was off anyway!) but regardless of my strategy, generally all I could do most of the time was just sit and sweat :-/. Probably a good thing I didn't write much, because ALL I would have talked about was how HOT it is here (might have made a nice change to the food theme I suppose!).
Anyway, updates will come on some of the highlights from the last few weeks, including my trips to the market and around Zeblla, an impromptu mini adventure in Burkina Faso (!) and my trips out 'in the field' with my volunteering placement so far. That's when and if the internet works for long enough, and in between hot bucket showers and power cuts ;)
With love from beautiful Ghana

P.s. please be patient with my limited internet connection... I am slowly learning to be! (but it's hard!). :)
P.p.s. no I don't have a swimming pool in my yard in Zebilla - I wish! I uploaded the wrong photo, and seeing as it takes about ten minutes to upload one picture I decided not to change it. Maybe it's my subconcious wishing I was back by the swimming pool in Accra!!
