Rolled into sunny Salta after another 20 hours bus journey from BA...hopefully one of the last massive journeys for a while!
It is a lovely little town with a pretty plaza, colonial churches and a white-washed convent...and it was perfect practice for getting used to altitude at a mere 1200 metres above sealevel!
Took a cablecar trip up to the top of the mountain to check out the view and discovered it is a small world after all after randomly sharing a car back down with a guy who was in Tim's highschool class. View was pretty fine too.
Spent a day on the tour to Cachi town driving up and down through the mountains and across the altiplano reaching a dizzying height of 4000 metres. The scenery was fab, massive peaks, little villages and cactus fields for as far as the eye could see. Cachi town was a little underwhelming but we were so stuffed full of locally cooked lamb, goats cheese and home cooked corn balls after the lunch stop, we didn't really care!
Went for muchos cervesas after bumping into Graham and Bridget and randomly ended up paying a peso to take a squizz at Jupiter and its moons through some guys massive telescope set up in the street!
On our last day, we hopped on a local bus to nearby San Lorenzo for an appetite inducing stroll before treating ourselves to our last-for-now enormous Argie steaks...and fat chips...and massive row of ribs...and salad...and even free empanadas for the delay! A fine feast for our final day in Argentina!
