We spent the morning at the house in El Retiro catching up on washing, blog writing and having a lay-in. Trying to get some energy back from our nomad lives. While Andreas and Laura were at college.
Around midday we headed back to Medellin with Laura's mum to meet Laura and have some lunch.
We had lunch at crepes and waffles a place with the three b's bueno bonito y barato which means good beautiful and cheap. It was not wrong. The food, dessert and milkshake were gorgeous!! We also had a Jamaican Flower tea which funny enough is grown in Mexico.
With a nice lunch this was our opportunity to thank them for their hospitality by paying for lunch. Stevie conveniently went to the toilet while I discreetly gave her the wallet as she passed. Operation Payment was done. Enjoying the satisfaction we relaxed with our tea. Laura's mum was surprised when she asked for the bill and the waitress said we already paid. We said it was for letting us stay.
As we are really enjoying our stay here we have decided to stay a few days longer. So we drove to the bus station to change our tickets for Sunday, 3.30pm. On the way to the station Laura's mum told us about the history of Pablo Escobar, the notorious drug lord who was head of the Medellin Cartel and that she had met him years ago and the violence he caused. Some local poor people see him as a hero. A robin hood figure. She also told us about the FARC Columbia's terrorist group inspired by Bolivarianism. The FARC is supported by Venezuelan President Chávez. I think a close eye needs to be kept on Chávez and his alleged funding of FARC. With him gone Venezuela and Columbia will be able to excel unhindered.
Andreas finished work and we headed to the Planetarium, newly opened it now had the exhibits in English which was handy. We also watched one of the projected films of space in some dome, which was amazing. They should make all films like it.
We had a look around Parque Explora and headed to Jardin Botanico, The cities garden that housed a wide range of beautiful trees, plants and flowers.
While Laura's mum took an Art lesson in the park we took the Metro to the cable car. The cable car stopped at the top of the mountain that gave us great views of the city. The cable car was built into the cities metro train system. At the top we went to the library which was built along with the cable car to improve access and education fin this poor district. The library was a main hang out for the youngsters who were outside street dancing. Some of the old walls were painted to represent strong political messages.
We ventured back and all went for a kebab. It was so good. Another busy day done. We headed to bed......
