Luckily when we got back to the station our bags were still there.
However our seat numbers were moved! So we were now closer to the toilets. Probably moved to make way for locals.
Not impressed. Eventually we boarded the bus and set off for Paraguay.
The drive was fairly comfortable. When we got to the border at 5.30am it was a quick stamp out before driving for 2 hours to the next border. Unfortunately the bus broke down half way so we had to wait while it took 20 men to fix the engine. Finally on our way we reached the border. Everyone had to get off the bus and unload their bag for searching. I wandered off. The border control was not pleased. I acted like the dump English man and said 'No Espanol', once our bags cleared their search the border guard pointed at me to get straight on the bus.
Finally on our way we were in Paraguay. We drove for about 7 hours and saw nothing but wilderness. The north of Paraguay was deserted. It was then that we started to panic because we realised that we had not got stamped into Paraguay. Luckily a few hours later we arrived at the Paraguay border control that was located in the middle of the country. We all had to get off the bus again and unload our bags again and line up against a wall while a guard checked our passports and another with a sniffer dog checked out bags. We then individually had to open our bags for a 3rd guard to inspect. Finally we got stamped in. Relief!
Back on the bus we finally arrived at Asuncion at 10.30 pm. We had to wait around for about an hour before jumping on our next bus to head to the border town Ciudad del Este.
