Tessa & I decided on a quiet morning whilst the others went on a guided cycle. There were 4 of us left in camp. As I returned to our tent after breakfast and crouched down to undo the zip I noticed something at the periphery of my vision sticking out from under the tent - focusing on it I realised it was a freshwater prawn ... it turned out to still be alive and because it had been raining they had left the lake for a night time walk. Mark kindly took it back to the water & released it.
We spent our morning cleaning out the truck and doing laundry before I led Tessa & Emily through the two sets of exercises that my wonderful trainer, Roz, had prepared for my travelling - firstly stretches and secondly a body weight workout. We then explored the extensive campsite and admired the lake - although no hippo sighting.
In the afternoon we went with 4 others in local taxis (ours was a corolla held together with rubber bands and hope) to Elsamere for afternoon tea. This was once the home of Joy & George Adamson of "Born Free" fame. We watched a video that explained how they both got into conservation - they were pioneers. Afternoon tea was lovely - lots of different cakes to try ... although due to a downpour we were unable to sit on the lawn admiring the lake view.
Our evening was spent in the campsite's bar drinking Kenyan whisky & chatting with Kano, our guide, about family, religion & the gradual cultural evolution in Kenya. Another lovely day.
