As today & tomorrow are primarily driving days we wanted to share some of our observations of driving in East Africa:
a) it's uber important to overtake the person in front of you regardless of oncoming traffic, busy-ness of queue and space to move back into your lane
b) should there be a barrier across the road and an official person stopping traffic to allow contra directional traffic through ignore this and drive along the ditch
c) if you're on either a motorcycle or bicycle you can ensure ownership of the lane by the addition of at least half a dozen planks of wood horizontally on the back of your bike
d) if there is no room to pull over, just stop where you are ... sometimes place a small triangular hazard sign randomly in the road
e) slow trucks should use all lanes at every opportunity and all cars regardless of make/ model are 4-wheel drives and can overtake on any terrain
Tomorrow is our first border crossing - fingers crossed.
