Today we started with a hippo cruise on Lake Naivasha - awesome. We saw 3 families of hippo - 4, 10 and 20. The second two families were resting their heads above water - either on a small island or on each other. We also saw many different birds - apparently there are more than 300 species around the lake. In one part of the lake is Crescent Island which has wildebeest, zebra, gazelle & giraffe on it who are the descendants of animals used in the "Born Free" film and others ... there are no predators on the island and as numbers get too high the government moves some of them to other national parks.
In the afternoon we drove to Nakuru. We are staying at a fabulous campsite owned by a guy who used to work for Absolute Africa. He spends most of the year living in NZ with his wife & children but is here for 5 months as he has a number of tours to oversee. There is a second Absolute Africa truck here - they are going in the opposite direction. When they arrived earlier there were only 6 on their truck ... but another 15 arrived from Nairobi. Quite a change.
We are having an early night as tomorrow we are being picked up at 0600 for a full day game drive. Toodles!
