Weirdly enough it wasn't hard to get out of bed for the both of us at 4.30am this morning. The breeze was pretty fresh and we had a load of bugs coming at us full speed, the bugs always manage to hit your eyes nose and mouth, never the forehead or your cheek and chest.
Being the adventurous type we did have the moped instead of a tour, it was pretty straight forward. One main road the whole way for about 40 minutes and then a really s***ty dirt road with thick sand and stones everywhere. We followed a few off road keeps that were the tours going to the sand dunes so their head lights help widen the view of the road a little! We skidded a few times because the soft sand was so fine and shinny. We got there with about 15 minutes to spare before the sun rose. We headed to the furthest white sand dune so that there weren't as many people around and as many Asians having a fashion shoot in the sand, aw If only I video recorded them! Haha. They wear their maxi dresses and try and get them to
Blow in the breeze and do the loreal 'I'm worth it' hair throw. Cringe.
I had a bit of an episode with my asthma half way up the dunes because of the heat and dryness of the air but recovered after 20 minutes or so.
We can't believe that there are these huge sand dunes in Vietnam! Apparently Mui Ne is built on sand dunes, the dunes are right next to the sea so it would mean that sea had to come up here at some point surely? Isn't that where sand comes from? They definatly don't look man made either!
The sunrise was lovely, big bright orange sun! You feel the heat immediately sore once the sun has risen it crazy how fast the heat rises in so little time!
We took the drive back to get some breakfast, it was really nice because it was across the coastline so the views were really good, especially of the fishermen in their bowl like fishing boats all sitting around the edges of it to balance the weight out. We went passed the red sand dunes where it's good to see the sunset from but we didn't bother going on them, it was just the same as the white ones just red!
We caught up with Sarah and Mike for breakfast at the usual spot, they were on their way to Dalat today so left pretty sharpies to catch the bus.
We went back to bed for an hour or so and then went out to book our bus to Dalat for tomorrow reluctantly bought sun cream - it's so expensive even out here! And tried to find an ATM that would allow us to draw out more than £60 at a time but after trying at least ten machines we were defeated so I had to put up with taken only that small amount of money out which is annoying because it will cost us more to keep taking money out!
We chilled by the pool all morning and had two games of pool after lunch which... I WON! Both times!
We went for a drive about 3pm across the coast line over to Mui Ne Bay Area where the fishing village is, it was lovely to see all the different shapes and sizes of boats docked up in the bay, there were the old school Vietnamese boats that were in a shape of a bowl and the fishermen would sit around the outsides of them, then the medium sized fishing boats with the long tail propellors that are everywhere in Asia and then the bigger fishing boat that have the mod cons on, like the big fishing net reels and a little captains hut to steer the boat in. There were all different colours!
That's about as much we were doing today so we dropped the bike off and went back to the room, I started packing bits and bobs up and Scott... Wait for it... Is reading! Yes, believe me not! We have been around so many people who read books whilst travelling he's jumped on the bang wagon so Sarah lent him a book she has finished reading; 'Marching Powder'. He's really into it, he read about 25 pages within half an hour! He's a right little book work getting I can see!
We went food in the evening met this really strange scouser that lived in Vietnam as a teacher, he was high as a kite on something other than tequila and hadn't washed himself in a while.. He kept stroking his hair forward over his face but it was greasy so it stuck down to his forehead. Scott got chatting with him, and liked his funny stories so kept wanting to get another drink... Great times.
His girlfriend was from Carmarthen but lived in Liverpool and now HCM. She was half soaked as well, god help these poor kids they teach!
