We decided we deserved a lie in this morning, we must have been tired, we couldn't wake up until 8.30 and that's not like us lately!
We packed up and left our bags until we caught the bus later to Mui Ne.
We walked to the war remnants museum about 2km away, it was still super quiet around the city compared to what we have been told it's usually like with horns tooting and people everywhere. Most shops are still shut up and most people seem to be inside still eating, drinking and playing on the karaoke! The museum cost us 46p to get in - breaking the bank I know!
In the court yard were US Air Force helicopters and planes which were used in the war and tanks and machinery used by the US army when in the Vietnamese war, the exhibition is used with the real equipment and none of it is replica. There were bombs and shrapnel pieces there too.
Inside was a three story building.
The history of Vietnam, they were under control of the French for 100 years until 1946 when they won the right to independence as a country, however the Americans were helping the French try to fight back this war on the quiet and when the French lost their battle the Americans came into control somehow and wanted control of the country now. The war in Vietnam overall lasted 17 years between the French and the US.
I don't believe the US fought a fair war though, the cruel things they did to these people where incredible! Inhumane. They wanted to destroy the farm land and their living.
There was a quote taken from a US sergeant, he said if the Vietnamese don't drop their weapons and surrender we will bomb them back into the Stone Age.
They dropped hundred and thousands of gallons of agent orange chemical which was proven that just 85g of the stuff could wipe out an entire city. The chemicals poisoned the crops for around 10 years, it would constantly 'rain poison' some were unaware and some had no choice but to try and replant crops and eat them which obviously came with consequences, poisoning the individual and causing women to have miscarriages and when conceiving the babies that did survive had severe deformities, the photographs taken of the victims are heartbreaking. Brain damage, paralysed, mental illness, tumours on their brains and faces, no limbs, one was born with no eye balls. The list goes on!
Some American soldiers suffered with their babies being born with deformities aswell.
The US secretary of defence owned up to the fact that they were wrong by going in to Vietnam and playing a part in the war there, they admit they were defeated also.
We got around all of the museum except for one section before a bell rang and the lights started getting switched off, it's Sunday we didn't think about the place getting closed early, either that or they were closed for an hour for lunch.
We were going to get a taxi back down to the hotel but they wanted £7 for a 2km drive!! Stuff that, we will walk! The Chinese New Year festivities are still going on in full force in the parks here, they're all set up as if it's a huge festival. It's nice to see though and everyone is really friendly and smiley!
We grabbed a bite to eat - although I wish we hadn't because it was vile! They didn't have fresh spring rolls so I ended up having deep fried, I wanted just vegetables and I'm adamant that there was pork in them, and they looked like little sausage rolls - yuk. And chips we had to share because I get all flustered and didn't know what to have were deep fried and super oily so I didn't eat all of those either. BOFF!
We went and waited in the hotel until it was time to go for the bus, the bus was an open sleeper bus so there are three rows of big seats that recline into beds, it's hard balancing on them when you go over bumps in the roads and all but I think next time if we get the chance on an overnight one we will try and get a bed on the floor because you will be a bit more stable.
I was ready to shove the horn of the bus up the drivers bum by the time we got off he was so annoying!
We get dropped off on a busy road that was obviously home to a lot of Russians because there were Russian signs everywhere and you can sort of smell them in the air...
We were meeting Sarah and Mike at Joes bar, we couldn't see them but it gave me perfect opportunity for a kick wee as I think I may have wet myself if is waited any longer, poor Scott was still holding it in!
We started walking up the street to try and find some accommodation when we bombed into Sarah and Mike, they took us up the road to the hostel they are staying at, it's quiet and clean, it's still being built some of it and doesn't even have a name so that's a little strange. But it's $5 a night each and there are just the four of us in one massive room so it's ideal because all the hotels and hostels we looked at were fully booked or prices started at $20 a night so it's punching our budget a little!
After a good gas we had a quick shower and went out for tea, we went back to Joes bar where there was live Music, we all ordered Mexican food which is a change at the moment from Asian food! I couldn't eat all of my fajitas so I passed the left overs on to the bin, (Scott).
Shattered so we headed home, no wonder we were tired though, it was way passed our bed time being 11pm! Such dirty stop outs we are!
Mui Ne seems nice, at night. Lots of bars and tyre saturates along the main road with hotels and minimarts on. It's busy here and very westernised, the place is a I outfits holiday destination for two weeks sat on the beach (for instance).
We will see how the beach is tomorrow!
