5am wake up call to get a taxi to the airport at 6am. We weren't sure they would remember or if the taxi would be on time so we went down early and woke them up on the sofa in middle of trying to get out the door.
Surprisingly he was very punctual! We were on the road at dead on 6 o'clock! We thought that it would take ages to get to the airport because everyone says 45 minutes to an hour. It took us 25 minutes.
Every thing was really easy checking in and going through to departures, we had two hours to kill so we grabbed some breaky. Te airport is really nice I think it's brand new.
The first flight of the day, always nervous when flying with Air Asia! It only took an hour and half to get to Bangkok, we arrived on time and were all out of the plane and on our way to immigration within ten minutes of landing which is unusual! The thai immigration man was really friendly and smiling and joking with us... What is going on!? Our bags came out first as well, something has to go wrong because everything is going too smoothly!
We had to go upstairs in the airport to check in for our second flight; it was just as cheap to fly for an hour to Chiang Rai as it was to get a taxi into Bangkok and then an overnight train or bus to Chiang Rai, plus it means I don't have to step foot inside Bangkok again - yet.
Again everything was straight forward AGAIN! We waited 45 minutes to check in, we sat and had a coffee and then after check in charged out phones a little and then... We got delayed by 20 minutes. There it was! But some how we landed on time in Chiang Rai aswell so what the heck happened there! Another straight forward baggage claim and finding the meter taxi to get to the hotel.
We have already noticed that there are a lot more friendly people here, not that the Vietnamese were rude or impolite but I think because they don't all speak English they can't communicate aswell and people always said that the people in north Vietnam are not as friendly as the Southern Vietnamese, because they have the persona about them that 'oh they won the war and took control over the south Vietnam aswell' bla bla bla!
The north of Vietnam seems a lot more calmer and baron, yes there are big buildings and car dealerships and big supermarket, some factories. It's a lot richer than Vietnam you can tell by the houses and big pick up trucks everyone has. The town is small from what we can gather, the hotel is nice for £5 a night each we really can't complain and they chucked air con in for us aswell!
We weren't planning on much today, it was 4pm by the time we got to the hotel and absolutely shattered from getting up early and even though it was an easy process, travelling is always tiring!
Scott found dairy Milk in Tescos, he has been craving this for ages because they don't sell it in Vietnam. He didn't end up buying it, he had the local sweets that he loves instead!
We had food at a family restsurant, they have actual broccoli up here!! Everything is so so cheap compared to the south, km dinner cost us £4 altogether!
Went for a boat around the night market, they had some pretty good stalls about the place. Scott spotted a man selling earrings and he needed another stretcher because he keeps going in the sea and loosing his others!!
This guy was doing piercings, clean piercings everything was at reposed and he was using one time use needles... So sorry mum and dad! But I had a piercing, it's okay though it only cost £2! I can hide it aswell because it's on the top of my ear! Haha, and you can't tell me off for another 3 months! :)
