It was lovely waking up to such a luscious view this morning of the limestone islands and the beach.
We had breakfast and had to check out by 8am though, some people were staying for a second night which would have been nice but I'm sure we would have been bored by the evening.
The extract pipe from the air con was dripping water because we had it turned on last night and of course the toiletries bag was smack bang underneath it so everything was absolutely soaking so after breakfast I had to dry the bag with the hair dryer and re pack it all which was an absolute nightmare!
Our last day in Halong and the sun made an appearance, there wasn't really a cloud in the sky. It was so nice, and it was boiling! We took the little boat for about an hour from Vinh Lan Ha bay back up to Halong Bay, the sea in between the two bays were absolutely chockablock with rubbish, it spoilt the scenery so much! We ear wigging to a conversation a tour guide was having with two men, he said that the rubbish comes in and out depending on the high or low tide and a lot of the rubbish is from the floating Villages, they don't have rubbish bins and are too lazy to take their rubbish to the bin men or main land so they put it in the sea but the government are slowly forcing them off the sea and onto main land because Halong is a natural wonder of the world and is a UNESCO protected area so it's not allowed. It is nice to see the floating villages, they had satellite tv, plant pots, fish tanks (big nets in the water holding their food) and it's all floating on polystyrene, but the water bin men are up against a fight!
We returned to the big boat about 9.30am, the police were on their boats checking people and getting money off people for some reason - corrupt bunch of sods!
We couldn't believe how beautiful it was there, even more with the sun out! Just staring at islands, limestone islands though, they're awesome!!
We had brunch and about 12.30 we arrived back at the port where it was time to leave Halong and return to Hanoi!
We have had such a brill couple of days, so glad that we waited for the weather to get better; it's been the perfect way to spend our last days in Vietnam!
The four hour bus journey back wasn't too bad, it went pretty fast. We walked around for about ten minutes after realising that we had passed it loads of times. We were staying in the blue star hostel, ended up that some customers had blown there water pipe in their room which ment that they had to shut all the water down in the hotel so we were transferred and upgraded to their sister hotel across the road. One by one we got taken to it on the owners motorbike through heavy traffic trying to balance ourselves with our rucksacks on! Haha. Oh when in Asia!
The room was nice enough for $10 a night! Our last night out in Vietnam, we ordered a hot pot from the street restaurant. We had to boil our own beef, veg and noodles; it was so much fun and tasted really good! Even though we added a lot of chillies!
We went back to the corner pub for a game of pool and I played this time. Scott got beaten by a Vietnamese girl again and then a French man and he narrowly beat me. I messed up at the very end with the French man, I nearly beat him!
We retired early because we have a 5am wake up call ready for Thailand; and Hanoi and it's traffic is getting on my nerves tonight, perhaps because in Sapa and Halong we weren't around any traffic what so ever.
