Early wake up to go get our thai massage at the highly recommended women's correctional institution in the old city. We had visions of it being a prison block with guards and guns in every corner and the I mates who massage you wearing their black and white striped all in ones with their serial number on them.
But we were most definitely wrong! - thank god. We looked more like convicted than they did, the clothes they gave us to put on were hilarious!
It was an old traditional thai house with the prison cells attached to the back of it. There was a nice garden and the communal room was very modern, clean and have some classy thai architecture. The women guards where nice enough, and the prisons were wearing normal masseuse clothes that you see in any massage parlour. The women were lovely, and they are bloody strong aswell! The massage was the best we had had because of how much pressure they apply, and it only cost £3.60 each, the cheapest we have to date!
The women are in there obviously because they have committed crimes but I think they have come from poor upbringings which has led them getting into trouble. Trying to give them a better start in life and a chance of a job when they leave prison. The gate is wide open for them to run away but they don't... They would probably get a hell of a punishment if they did try to do a runner!
We had some food in the restaurant there, not much on the menu so chicken fried rice for breakfast! It was actually really tasty and we had a small dish of some sort of soup on the side which was yummy, I think it was only pepper and spring onions in water!
Afterwards we went searching for some temples around the old city, we found them but the majority of them have scaffolding on the outside of them, there was only really one that really stood out and had some cracking interior, there were so many sitting Buddhas in there it sort of looked pretty. I had to wear a purple dressing gown to go in, Scott drawers the line there so sat outside. Haha! People were taking photos so I joined in - whoops. Not sure if I was supposed to because I had a dirty look of a monk. Bloody monks! I wasn't giving him any money they have enough! Walking around with his iPhone 6, they wind me up! Phwooar. You can see were they prioritise their donations on!
Afterwards we went and booked the bus to Pai for tomorrow and just had a drive around town, it's a nice town with little grass verges on the side of the street for people to do their morning stretches in and let their dogs go doo-doo, flowers everywhere aswell. But nothing id say that really stood out to me, not as much as we thought anyways because people were bugging it up a lot and I think we were expecting something wonderful when really it's a big city with lots of annoying one way systems and some temples.
There is a lot to do in the way of zip wiring and abseiling but it's stupidly expensive and we have already done it; we wanted to do the white water rafting but it's dry season and the waterfalls are more like streams now. There is a national park with a waterfall and a temple on a hill but it's difficult to get to and reviews said to stay clear of it if your on a moped because the roads are dangerous so we did!
So it's only midday and we have done everything we wanted to do, we went to a cafe and had a drink. I had an Italian raspberry soda - delicious! Scott had a sprite - adventurous thing isn't he! ;)
We then washed some more clothes and dried them on the rooftop whilst we tanned a little and looked our plan of action for the next couple of months!
This evening we walked into the old city for some food and had a stroll about. Suppose the place is pretty at night with all the little restaurants and their fairy lights!
