We finally had a lie in! I think it's not having a window, you don't see any natural light so you don't have a clue what time it is! We missed breakfast though as we slept in until 10am, I was feeling alright but Scott wasn't! He's just about learnt that tiger beer gives you a rough hang over the next morning! Neither one of us were hungry so we skipped breakfast.
We hired the bike again today and went north of the island. The roads were along the coastline again and it was really pretty up this way aswell! It's quieter up this side than south I think.
We just out of Patong and we came across a police check point, they were pulling motorbikes over. Great! We both got off the bike in sheer panic, we didn't know what they wanted until the nice police office said we just want to check you. So he patted Scott down and check our bag, he asked me to open my camera case so I did, and then the front pocket, which I did. As I opened it he giggled to himself in amusement and happiness as he thought he had caught a packet of drugs on me when really it was just my SD cards in a little plastic sealable bag; haha jokes on you! Haven't caught us out this time!
We went about another 2km up the road and there was another police check pulling everyone over, this time they wanted drivers license, well this was karma... I had forgotten to put Scott's driving license in the purse! So I was saying, 'I have mine, I'll drive! What about our passports?'
Trying to negotiate. But it wasn't happening these police officers were a*******s, because they knew that they were making money off everyone. I had to go and pay a 500 baht fine, it made me feel better that I wasn't the only one and there was a huge queue of tourists and locals paying the same amount for a fine. Still s***ty I know but a £10 fine is better than anything else in this country.
They couldn't fine us again for 24 hours if we got stopped again we just had to show the piece if paper. That didn't stop us from swooping over on the way back and me driving where we got told there were police checks going on, we didn't want to risk it. At least we had my driving license on me. It was nerve racking though, I'm not good on a scooter but luckily this was a new scooter and really smooth to ride so I felt pretty confident, didn't make me go any faster than 20 mph mind! Haha. The police checks seemed to be stopping people if they didn't have a helmet on, lots of people were turning around just before the checks and quickly scrambling away! Haha. Naughty naughty. I'm not sure how much a fine is for that?!
We carried on making our way up to the Gibbon rehabilitation centre, it was practically up the top of the Phuket island, we had to pay 200 baht to get in the protect forest, the sanctuary runs on donations. But sorry there isn't much chance of us giving a generous donation now after what we just spent!
You could hear the gibbons chatting away to one another, they were so loud! I was half expecting one to swoop down and pinch the water bottle out of your hand.
The bit where visitors could go was tiny, there were about 30 gibbons there overall but half tod them where the other side of the river in cages waiting to be released into the forest so they had to try and limit the amount of human contact they have, in order for them to grasp some of their natural instincts back. The gibbons which we could see have a high possibility of never being able to be released again because of the mental and physical disabilities. Some are blind, one is missing a hand and foot, some won't go near another gibbon because of bad experiences such as show fighting in circus's. It's sad! They're all different species of gibbon as well so a lot of them won't get along with one another, some of their cages are conjoined to try and pair the gibbons together to help introduce them to friends and learn off one another.
They're doing a good job there but there wasn't a lot there for you to see, we had left after about 30 minutes. Stand and watch the gibbons for a whole just listening to them shout ably one another and swing upside down in their cages.
One the way back we went to Laem Sing Beach, it was lovely! Quiet, not too big, the water was gorgeous and today there wasn't much of a wind so we didn't have any sand thrown all over us!
Scott wasn't feeling the best still so he had a nap whilst I people watched and a few dips in the sea!
We stayed for a while before going back to the pool to swill the salt water off us; nearly had an asthma attack walking up the steep cliff to get back to the moped!
A late cheapy lunch say on the floor outside the 7/11, every time we walk through the doors of a 7/11 it's like going into a freezer it's so nice! We just slowly walk around taking in the coolness!
We went out and had a naughty pizza, we needed some junk food from drinking last night and the taste buds weren't fancying Asian food tonight! we went to the strip and watched man utd then, whoop! I caught up on my blogs because I was sooooo behind!
