An early morning today, yuk! 6.30am isn't a nice time to get up. At least the sun hadn't quite risen yet so walking to the monorail wasn't hot and clammy with our rucksacks on.
We were in the train station within 15 minutes of leaving the hotel.
Scott had some breakfast, I wasn't particularly hungry so didn't buy anything.
We are taking the train to Singapore today, it's hunna be a nice change because we haven't got on a train to get to a new destination since India!
Everything was straight forward and we were boarding the train by 7.45am. The carriage was empty and there was plenty of leg room with reclining seats. A journey without any bumbs and potholes in the roads or holding on for dear life going around corners!
We are both looking forward to
Just watching the world go by and being able to walk around freely!
the train was behind schedule and we didn't arrive at the immigration station until 4pm, we all had to disembark the train and go upstairs to get stamped out of the country before we could re-board and go over the bridge to Singapore. There was a huge thunder cloud waiting for us when we arrived in Singapore and some beautiful spaniel sniffer dogs. It was all pretty straight forward; a Malaysian guy helped us get the bus to the mrt station, it was nice of him but it was quite straight forward also.
It was boiling here, crazy how much hotter it got just by going south a few hundred kilometres, I didnt think it could possibly get much hotter than what it already was in Kuala Lumpur! We got on the metro line at around 5pm, a lot later than what we had anticipated! Everything is made easy for you when the metro link is put in place, in every country and city not just here. I dont know why but it was strange to see so many different minorities speaking english as their first language to one another. You just don't expect it, you expect to here hindi or chinese, cantonese or Malayan. There were young western kids on the train casually riding it from school or tennis practice. First impressions were a very international country, high tech and uber clean!
The guy that was with us said that everything is very systematic here, you will never wait longer than ten minutes for a train or bus and everyone always forms queues when waiting for the tube or bus. Usually you just see people trying barge passed each other when boarding a train in London or New York but here there are markings on the floor for you to stand and wait for people to get off the train before your allowed to get on. Its good, people pay attention to it! Probably because they are scared of the fine or consequence they will get if they don't pay attention it; i mean its S$500 if you drop litter! (Thats 200 GBP) Its against the law to have chewing gum here, there is a law that your not allowed it and eating and drinking is forbidden in the stations.
Everyone obides by the rules, its a good system! Shame it wouldn't work in Britain!
We got off at the little india stop, now time to walk a bit further to our hotel, HOTEL 81 d*** ON! We could finally see it after about 5 minutes of walking. Not long but it doesnt take long for the heat to get to you here and for you to begin sweating profusely.
The thunderstorm still trying to break through, it had nearly succeeded, it was going to be a big one!
We checked in and much to our disappointment there wasnt any laundry here. We are beginning to run out of clothes. It just ment that we were going to have to use the the shower gel that was provided to wash our clothes and hang them up around the room, doesn't help that we never seem to get a window in our rooms either so no sunlight to help dry the clothes!
So yes, you guessed it we are re wearing clothes and the clothes that we are managing to wash and dry are still a bit smelly and smell very stale! Hard times.
We got showered and we out to find something to eat, by now the heavens had opened and we were in the middle of the biggest thunder and lightning storm we had ever seen, the lightning was lighting the sky pink every 20 seconds, not giving the thunder chance so it was all coming together. We seen to lightning bolts basically hit each other, so bizzare! The noise was incredible! fork lightning everywhere aswell so I wasnt best pleased that we were trying to run through the streets to find somewhere to eat! I was crapping my pants to be quite honest! We walked around for ages and couldnt seem to find any cheap restaurants to eat, there were just indian jewelery shops and the restaurants that were there had all their meat out on show so there was no way we were eating that meat!
We nearly gave in, soaked right through we found a little indian restaurant and munched on our first meal of the day.
It was times like tonight I wish we had a window because that thunderstorm would have been some cracking evening entertainment!
