Day 365, 12 June '15, Cork-Dublin-Enniscorthy - Travel Day! Wow. The 8 day roadtrip has come to an end. From Dublin north to Portrush and then all the way around the coast to the west, down to the south and today we did the final 270km run from Cork to Dublin Airport - A grand total of 4000 kms onto the clock of the Wee Red Beastie. If we were to consider it a 4000km test drive, we'd be mightily impressed - as it accomplished that with less than €200 in fuel (A$300). The final motorway run was a bit dreamlike actually. Managed those 270kms in less than 3 hours. That distance would take us 5-6 hours along the winding back roads and coast roads we have been frequenting. Still, a big drive and then we had to do a lap of Dublin Airport just to access the petrol station for a final tank top-up before returning it to Budget. Worth it though... they snaffle €90 in advance to cover a full tank. Not sure if anyone's had a look at the tank on the Beastie. Anyway - passed the inspection, grabbed the paperwork and hopped on the shuttle to the terminal (having held it up for 10 minutes much to the disgust of someone running late for their flight - aahhh c'est la vie - they'd had all morning to run on time). In true Hardie fashion, we were at the Airport coach park 40 minutes ahead of our coach, so cooled our jets and wondered at the masses of humans that fly into Dublin then get herded onto coaches for their package holidays. Such a wonderful country for driving about and enjoying the scenery and heritage on one's own schedule. Mind you, the bloke at Budget who'd put his car in a ditch trying to avoid a coach might have been wishing he'd taken the coach trip instead. Finally onto the Wexford Bus and off to Enniscorthy - and it was just like coming home. Big welcome at the bus stop and off we went. The dogs went ballistic! Remember - this is our Irish menagerie - 7 dogs, 10 cats, 30 odd chickens (eggs hatching regularly - so more now) and 3 goats. It was like we'd been gone 5 years not six months. The gardens have shaken off their winter hibernation and are absolutely lush with greenness and growth and roses and wild flowers. My favourite dog - Peanut - who was just a 8 week old puppy at Christmas is now coming up to full grown and just as cute as ever, though runs about on 3 legs - poor critter has a degenerative hip issue and will be having a hip replacement in September. Many cuddles have been had. She still sleeps with her tongue out. It's a bigger tongue now so leaves a wet patch on my lap. James's "girlfriend" Starr is still madly in love with him and everyone else was hugely glad to see us too. Even the cats have shown recognition. We're planning a few days of R&R before we go for any jaunts. We think we should spell R&R "ULMLHWSGLMS" - which obviously stands for Unpacking/Laundry/More Laundry/Hand Washing/Snoozing/Garden Lunches/More Snoozing...
