Days 232-237, 30 Jan-4 Feb '15. Sunday drive to Meylar's Mill in Tacumshane (1st Feb). And, believe it or not, starting to packed for our next adventure. It took us a while to get organised on Sunday morning, but it was a gorgeous day (no wind) and we eventually made a move. We found a brochure weeks ago for Meylar's Mill (www.millhousebar.ie). We'd even made a reservation a couple of times for their Sunday lunch special (2 courses for €14.95). Never actually managed to get there though. It took about an hour on the back roads and eventually we ended up on an "L" road. Pretty much a lane. Main purpose of the trip was to see one of only two intact mills in Ireland. This small, but perfectly formed, mill was built in 1846. After lunch of roast sirloin beef and veggies, followed by sticky toffee pudding with Baileys icecream, we explored the mill. We're amazed how slim the Irish are all things considered. We actually split our meal, both the main and the dessert, and still had enough to eat. It's our New Year's money and waistline saving resolution. Climbing up the mill was a fun bit of exercise too. I've seen windmills before in Holland, but this was James's first windmill. A very productive day all round. We're in the process of packing up and cleaning the house right now. Amazing how stuff has just leaped out of the exploding backpacks and spread itself from one end of the property to another. We learned a good trick the other day for not leaving things behind in hotels etc. Basically start at one point in the house and where possible put one hand on the wall and follow it in and out and around the house til you return to the same spot. Voila! Nothing is missed. Our owners/hosts arrive home from Sydney tomorrow (26 hour flight... aargh!) Then it's one final turkey pie for dinner and on Friday we head downtown for R&R with no nanimals. Seriously Fun.
