The Rum distillery was good fun, turns out Bundaberg cane factory had an excess of molasses in the early 1880s and decided the best way to use it was to turn it into Rum. We toured the site and saw the distilling process to create Australia's favourite rum. The reason you've, probably, never heard of it is because 96% is consumed by Aussies, 3% is shipped to New Zealand and only 1% is shipped overseas. Although they have started to make special blends that they are sending abroad to get into the market. Having a taste at the end of the tour I would suggest it probably won't catch on back home.
We arrived in Hervey Bay late Saturday afternoon and found a whole host of camp sites, which were all full, it's the start of the school holidays and it appears everybody has headed to Hervey Bay, although we're still trying to figure out why. We eventually found the Happy Wanderer Village on Truro Street in the suburb of Torquay, save to say we are not happy wanderers!
Last night after returning from dinner we found a leak from the air vent and a constant drip of water onto our bed in the back of the van. It really was the worst nights sleep, trying to sleep around the bowls catching the drips wasn't very easy. Apollo, our camper hire firm, don't offer repairs on a Sunday so we will have to wait until tomorrow to arrange the repair and tonight we have had to check into a motel to be able to get some sleep. To make things better we also found we have a flat tire and a slow puncture, something Apollo don't cover us for, but they will only let us get the tires repaired at approved contractors!
Tomorrow is going to be fun day.
