Hello all;
I did not get as much time on the computer as I had thought, it seemed every day was just packed with fun. That's good I suppose! Our second day in NO was more focused on the kids, so we hit the St. Charles streetcar again and headed into town. We did the children's museum and bag lunch in the cafeteria. Excellent fun, kids got a bunch of their energy out there. It's a good children's museum, and everyone found something to do. From there we jumped over and went to the 1850 house, to use our tickets to see the museum and replica house of the period.
Once we headed out of that, we figured a quick bite to eat was in order. We stopped at a Firehouse we saw the day before, and grabbed a couple of T-Shirts from the firehouse, to support them and just because its an awesome souveneir. Of course Gavin went crazy in there with all the fire trucks and the crew let the kids climb up on the equipment. Nice group. From there we hit Bubba Gump's shrimp company for a family friendly snack. We jumped some more street cars and finally hit the market for the end of the day. Once again our 4:00 'early' return back didn't work out, because we had to wait about 45 minutes for the streetcar to take us back. Joy had a close encounter earlier in the day with a guy on the streetcar, but this ride was just fine. We headed back to camp and had ice cream and dinner and hit the bunks. It was breakdown night for the camper, and we started pulling in the awning, and straightening up the site. Folks that we had met actually came over to say goodbye, which is one of the reasons we enjoy camping so much. Everyone enjoy's your stories.
The drive back was 912 miles, split up into two days. We did cheat a little by getting a Holiday Inn room to have the kids swim and not worry about setting up and breaking down this morning. The drive was fairly uneventful, and kids are back in their own beds safe and sound. We had some windy moments on the highway, but the headwind mostly went away on the trip home and I was able to get a massive 11 Miles to Gallon! Joy read books to us near the end of the trip, and we finished up one of our favorite books "Sisters Grimm" and we even reviewed the topics in the newspaper when the radio stations were awful. I'm thankful for an adventuresome family, and I continue to learn and gain experience as a camper. Look for us at a rest stop near you! Thanks for listening.
