New Orleans; So we made it to our most southern point, we're pretty sure. The beach is just too darn far, and we've been driving way too long. OK, so as we pulled into New Orleans, our crazy GPS took us into a neighborhood that was 'literally' the wrong side of the tracks. Here is this family of five going down a few streets that made us incredibly nervous, but low and behold we were able to come back across the tracks and into the New Orleans KOA. Its a cute little place, plenty friendly, the kids met up with the owners immediately and helped them plant flowers into a pot as we unloaded the truck and set everything up. Pretty cool. The thing about this KOA is that there are not too many things for the kids to do, so they are a little jumpy.
We found out about the Streetcar system and got up this morning and made it over to the pick up point. Other than parking the car practically on rail road tracks, we headed into town on the trolley. One funny thing about the whole lifestyle down in the 'big easy' that I thought was funny. I had to run across the street of the streetcar stop to get change. I asked the woman how often the trolley comes, and she said. "Oh, it comes pretty often baby." ...yeah "pretty often", not any particular time or anything, I thought it was hilarious. That system was really easy and enjoyable to use. We went right into town and had Beignets and coffe at Cafe DuMond, fabulous! New Orleans is all about food as well, so we went to a tourism office and asked where to head to lunch. There was a family friendly place down the street about 6 blocks, so we started exploring. We came to an intersection where there were police cars all over the place, and a huge crane in the middle of a small park. It ended up being a film set for a new Bruce Willis film, and they were filming a car chase. We didn't get to see the car chase, but a bunch of people said Bruce Willis was in a car really close to us, but I never saw him. I'll have to look for that movie soon, since we were practically "extra's!" Lunch was more important so we enjoyed some good food before our history tour of the French Quarter.
Everyone enjoyed that, then we did a planned walking tour through the French Quarter. Our guide gave us historical facts about buildings and leaders of the town, I loved it.
We got lazy and ordered pizza for dinner, delivery! Tomorrow is our last day in New Orleans, we'll take that streetcar system again, and definately beignet's and coffee for breakfast! Then hopefully the childrens museum and probably more shopping...yeah imagine that.
