The Awesome Foursome
Well today we were let loose around Bangkok on our own! Firstly we caught the monorail down to Siam Square (the main shopping district) and had a brief walkabout as many of the shops were not open!
We then got back onto the monorail and headed towards the national stadium (this is where the thai football league play), then as we were walking along the road we were acustomed by a tuk-tuk driver who eventually persuaded us to go on a mini tour of the temples we hadn't already seen.
First stop (after dramatically weaving in and out of the busy bangkok traffic!) was the temple of the 'lucky buddha' here we met a really nice bloke who suggested a few places to visit!
Then it was back on the tuk-tuk and on to the 'marble temple' here we saw the monks doing their equivalent of the sunday service - lots of chanting!
Then back to the tuk-tuks and on to the 'golden mountain' lots of steps (felt like double in the heat!) fantastic views all over Bangkok (although the roof was slightly on the scolding side! lots of ouches!)
Next stop was wat poh (the oldest temple in Bangkok and also home to the biggest buddha - Big isn't the word, hes huge!) Time for an ice lolly and a gentle stroll in the much needed shade!
It was then bye bye to the tuk-tuks (the whole tour cost us 20baht - that works out to be around 7pence each! Bargain!)
Transport changed to a taxi and it was off to the koh san road - where we had to give in and have a mcdonalds! (so brits abroad we know!) This place is full of backpackers, bars and market stalls.
Then came the best journey yet - another tuk-tuk, but this time we all got in one and had a mentalist driver! He was so funny, rocking the tuk-tuk and saying lovely jubbly constantly!
After a quick snooze (still catching up after the jetlag!) we headed down to the gorgeous pool for a sunbathe and a swim.
We decided after being naughty earlier (mcdonalds!) that we'd have a tradditional thai meal! We all really enjoyed it, eating purple flowered like dumplings had to be the highlight!
