Hey all!!
I got a package from family with love of great goodies!! Thanks a bunch! I found out that my family loves mac and cheese, rice a roni, and CASHEWS!! LOVE THEM! They keep talking about them, even though they ate 2 whole cans in one night. So if anyone want to send me cashews, you are more than welcome. They love them. I can buy mac and cheese in the store, and make it for them. I think they just like the consistancy of the noodles. My host dad also really loves cheese. I bought cream cheese while I was in Lima, which is really hard to find around here. I bought it at a "wongs" in Lima. Go figure. American grocery store. Of course they would have cream cheese. My host dad ate the whole thing in two days with just bread, and sometimes just the cream cheese. Its funny. I dont mind the mac and cheese and stuff, of course, because I can pretend like I am living in the states, and i dont have to eat rice!! I am so sick of it!! I eat it three times a day, and its most of my plate. Maybe a small chicken piece, or some beans. But they sure do love their rice here. I also have gotten into the habit of lying to my host mom and telling her that I ate lunch then I really didnt. She's caught on. It must be a universal mother thing or something. They always know when you are lying or when you are upset. Uncanny! She can read me like a book. A bit disturbing, especially when you cant express yourself completely in their language. I am still trying to perfect the spanish thing.
Another group of Builders Beyond Borders is coming down to make latrines in Picso. I'll be gone for a week and a half building bathrooms. What an exciting life!! The NGO is so nice. They bring down things for us. Like magazines, cheese-its, skiddles, starbursts, peanutbutter. This time, they asked us what they want us to bring down. My host brothers asked me for a play station 2. I guess youth and video games is a universal thing too! Except that my brothers are 24, 22, and 21. But I still consider them kids. Not that I am so grown myself. I just switch my endulgment from play station to guitar. Speaking of which, if anyone has a mandolin that they are not using, I would love to play it!! It would be for a good cause!! kind of like a donation. I can teach my community how to play it! I decided I am going to learn the mandolin while here for two years. I have been playing lots of guitar, and got WAY better. But the possibilities are endless on a mandolin!!
Hope everyone is well!
Happy travels,
Teigan
