Our last day of 5 in Kusadasi. A ferry port with lots of shopping and restaurants. We stayed in a new modern hotel on the water with a really nice room. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel each morning. I would usually have a hot chocolate, cereal - a small mix of cornflakes, Special K and oats. Then toast with jam or egg. A lot of the other options were the traditional Turkish breakfast of cold cuts and salad.
We'd walk down the street along the water past the little shops to the main shopping hub. Wondering through the Bazaar's. Many shop owners "just" wanting us to have a look in their shop, then "what do you like?" Every restauranteur wanted us to look at their menu. Everyone was happy and friendly. We humoured some and ignored others because it was every shop we walked past.
The first night for dinner we ate at the hotel's restaurant. The waiter insisted we try their aged meatballs. They were good and came on soft thin Turkish bread which most other places didn't add.
The second (and third) night we found a place with wood fired Pide. I'd been wanting to try these all week and they were so good. The thin base, that wrapped around the edges in a shape of a sail boat, just made it! We asked our waiter, who was the happiest we'd met, recommend the best flavours and he did whilst joking with us he'd never eaten there. But he made me a special sweet cocktail which was like a vodka sunrise with a little bit of everything in.
We bumped into him the next day. We were walking near the restaurant and he was standing out the front of the restaurant next door. "What are you doing here!?" Turns out he usually works there with his two cousins and was only filling in next door, we laughed.
We did a lot of walking in Kusadasi. The weather was warm, there was friendly people about, everything was in easy access. We did some shopping in our free time. Bought some souvenirs. It was great.
Our fourth night for dinner we walked in a different direction for dinner, along the water. Avoiding the seafood restaurants, worried for Sean's allergy, we stopped at another hotels restaurant. These people didn't crowd us to come in either. I noticed on the menu a delightful dessert and as soon as we decided we had staff attending our entry straight away. I had a traditional Turkish dish of mashed eggplant with tomato sauce. Sean had a really nice Kofte with rice, chips and salad. FOR DESSERT: It was a chocolate dream baked until perfection, served with vanilla ice cream and sprinkled with cinnamon. Literally went to chocolate heaven. We had one each. I wouldn't have shared. Can you guess why we had dinner there the following night as well? They remembered us too and were shaking our hands as we came in giving us the best seat in the house on the deck in front of the sunset.
We really liked this place. It was fun, entertaining, enjoyable and relaxed.
