Day 12 Yulara
I woke early so Josh and I decided to go and watch the sunrise from the viewing platform in the campground. We were slightly delayed as Josh got very side tracked following rabbits with his spotlight. We finally made it up to the viewing platform and it was a beautiful sunrise and we were able to see both Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
We walked back to the caravan and had breakfast and then we got ready for our day trip to Kata Tjuta.
We were so impressed when we first saw them. They are so large and there are 36 domes.
Our first stop was the Valley of the Winds. It’s a 7.5km grade 4 walk. It was freezing when we started but thankfully we warmed up quickly. Bronte was my tour guide telling me where to walk and describing different things we were seeing along the way. She was very entertaining and it distracted her from how far she had to walk. Josh thought we were too slow so he went ahead and met some French Canadians so talked their ears off instead! Although it was a big walk and not always easy we all loved it. Bronte did extremely well and didn’t complain too much.
We then went straight to Walpa Gorge. I don’t think anyone was too excited about another walk except me! Poor Bronte wasn’t interested and would have loved to stay in the car but I bribed her with a lolly and it worked! It was nice and the trees were such beautiful shades of green but would have been more exciting if there was water. There were lots of bridges to walk over so the kids liked that.
We ended up walking 11kms in just under 3 hours so the kids did amazing.
I forgot to mention that there were a few flies around by the end of our first walk and a few more for our second walk. Silly me left the fly nets in the caravan as didn’t think we needed them. They are ready for tomorrow though!
We went back to the campground for lunch, showers, washing and a well deserved rest.
The kids then went to the park and then we played putt putt golf with Papa. The kids then found their friends from Erldunda Roadhouse so they were off again playing at the park and riding their bikes.
We cooked dinner and watched the sunset from the sand dunes. Then the kids went out with the spotlight to look for rabbits.
Everyone is now fast asleep ready for our adventures in Uluru tomorrow.
Facts about Kata Tjuta - it consists of 36 domes, the highest rises 546m above the plain (198m higher than Uluru)
