Day 14 - Yulara to Kings Canyon (304kms / 4 hrs)
Sadly today it was time to leave Yulara. So we packed up and hit the road at 8:30am. Our first stop was the Camel Farm at Yulara. What a beautiful place that we nearly didn’t go to but I’m so glad my parents told us too. Apart from the 80 camels which I could look at all day, they also had a little farm section. The kids got to feed 2 baby camels, a donkey, some sheep, some kangaroos, 2 goats and a water buffalo. Whilst I was busy taking photos and watching the kids an emu in a different enclosure pecked me on the shoulder. We then wandered through the shop and looked at the bar area which Rog loved. We hope to visit again one day when the Uluru Camel Cup is on.
After such a great start to the day it was time to drive to Kings Canyon. It was a very uneventful drive however we did have a quick stop at Kings Creek Station and looked at their camels. We arrived at Kings Canyon Resort around 1pm. There were a lot of people at check in. So after setting up we had lunch and Josh went riding then Rog took Bronte to the pool. She jumped in and swam a very short distance and jumped out as it was so cold.
We then drove to Kings Canyon and did the 2km Kings Creek Walk which meanders along Kings Creek ending at a viewing platform where you can view sheer canyon walls. It was pretty looking at the rock formations but the creek is dry. We couldn’t get to the last viewing area as a large rock has fallen down the cliff and they have to build a new viewing area. On our return Josh spotted a wallaby which was exciting. There were quite a few flys on our walk too so the boys broke off a small branch to use as a fly swat only to find a sign about 3/4 in saying not to touch anything especially branches for fly swats. Ops, if only the sign was at the beginning of the walk. We walked past others who had done the same too so we weren’t the only ones.
We drove back to the campground and the family saw a dingo wandering around. Then we went to the sunset viewing area to watch the sunset over the Kings Canyon. It was a beautiful view but not a very exciting sunset.
We had dinner and there was supposed to be ‘bogan bingo’ which Bronte was really looking forward to but when we got there it had been cancelled. So we went back to the caravan for showers and the kids did art using watercolour pencils instead.
