Hi Everyone,
A bit behind on these updates we are currently in Dunedin but thought we had better catch you up on our time onthe West Coast.
After we left the Abel Tasman we headed down to the coast, stopping first at the Buller Gorge where there was a swingbridge crossing the gorge, argh! it was quite fun though, discovered the dreaded sandfly here though which has plagued us ever since.
The west coast was amazing so beautiful, the coastline was all rugged with rocks and caves etc. Just outside Westport there was a seal colony and you could see all the baby seals playing in the surf they were so cute. We also passed an the pancake rocks which is also a big blowhole but although we were there at high tide the weather was too good (not that we were complaining) so there was no water to blow out.
Headed down to the glacier region which again was amazing (really do need to think of some more describing words). We did a glacier hike on the Franz Joseph glacier it was brill. Had to wear crampons on your shoes and we walked through ice crevasses, caves and tunnels, went about 350m high onto to the glacier had great views of the surrounding landscapes. We were walking on there for about 4 hours, took tons of photos. Headed over to the Fox glacier afterwards but just walked to the bottom of it and we also went to Lake Matheson where Mt Cook and Mt Tasman are reflectedint eh water. Unfortunately for us theough the top of Mt Cook was covered by cloud.
Up next Queenstown
Take care
